Obsidian desk build

well it has taken me along time to get it right, here is my 1st design but it wasnt suitable as like me not many people have room for large desks so it needs to be compact.

now im getting somewhere

this looks a lot better

and now with colour

I would like to know you opinions of the desk and always like feedback so get typing and let me know what you think

ok thats over with now the technical stuff.

i7 4770k processor
Corsair H100i with link and lighting kit
Gigabyte gtx 670
Corsair Dominator Platinum
Corsair RM750 power supply
samsung 256 pro ssd

plus Accessories to follow once i have worked out my budget
now most of the build will be wood apart from a few items

just a little update started the frame work of the desk, its coming on nicely

then i done the idiot thing trying to fight my table saw and it won lol luckily im on so many pain killers i cant feel it to much

back to work lol

been working hard over the last couple off days its starting to take form.
had spent a lot off time working out placing for motherboard and h100i, due to the size off the desk 1100x545mm because it needs to fit in a alcove so everything needs to be compact and i wanted it symmetrical.

decided to rearrange the backpanel i think it looks better

now a couple of pictures on the centre plinth

started the bracket for the h100i

backpanel again looking a lot better

also cut down the power switch from a 650d

this is a better view of how the h100i will be hidden

I'll be following this one, wow you have a lot of tools ! I'm jealous.

Can you keep a track of the man hours going into this, be interesting to find out how long something like this takes.

I'd like to do something similar but I was more of a metalwork fan than wood !

With the name "Long John" and the Corsair sponsorship and you from that great nautical city of Southampton I'm see pirates and tall ships !

i have been doing this for 2 months already so cant work out my hours, but at a guess about 10 hours a week, as i have chronic pain syndrome and cant work on it all the time due to pain.

also i need to do a update as i have progressed a lot further than this

I myself love wood products... such a shame that I don't have the skill/space/money for a build like these

Here goes for another update, decided to fit my corsair link commander at the bottom as seen in this picture, but use a hard drive as a template

Started on the fan fronts

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone at Corsair for supplying me two 650d front panels for my desk build as being disabled it’s very hard to finance this build, so once again thank you corsair for your support and your quality products.

The obsidian range of cases have got to be the best looking cases on the market

This is third desk build and i have never done any woodwork before,so if you want to do it then i would say go for it what have you got to lose.

heres a few more bits

so i have started to build the framework for the psu

Just need to cut the hole so the psu can drop in

Had a bad day broke one off the fan mounts so will have to do it again.

Plus i have started on the fronts for mounting the fan grills

The right-hand grill fitted well starting to come together

Started to do the cut out for the psu

Getting on well with the h100i surround it’s starting to take shape

Here’s an overall look on how its standing

I have started of the top of the desk so i can look at getting the glass done

This is my home away from home, if i could fit my bed in there I would lol

The middle section will be removed so i can get access to the h100i

Started on the hole for the corsair link commander to fit in

You take one step forward and two steps back, I have now broke the 2nd fan mount

Great update, looks like its coming along nicely. It looks very robust, what are you doing for treating/painting the wood? Staining or paint and what colours are you thinking of?

i have some mdf primer then try and keep it as much as the same as the corsair obsidian range of cases, but not really thought about it too much atm

I have started to fill any little holes so no dust can be dragged in

Have almost finished the left-hand side of the desk just need some fine sanding

still needs finishing and sanding

I plan to build something like this eventually. I have an old alu case hanging around waiting to be butchered for the mounts

Wont the wood eventually warp from the heat though?

this is the third desk i have build and have had no problems with it

When I've got some spare time me tinks - looks great longjohn but also a mission and a half!

/Good excuse to buy me some more powertools

Well it’s time for another update.

It has been a day of finishing things off, first of was to build a boxing for the front i/o panel and to cover the cables for it.

Plus finishing off the front just a bit of hand sanding again, the problem with the wood filler I’m using it stains the wood so it don’t look like it’s been finished well, once it’s been painted it will look a lot better.

Then it was onto the psu what a job that was, all I can say sanding then fitting then sanding and fitting again and so on lol

The finally fitting the corsair link commander, and really the same as above lol

That’s all for this update and will soon be painting, so it’s coming to the end guess I will have to start thinking for my next build.

Hi all it’s been awhile since my last update, so I thought it need updating.

I’m still await for my glass to be made, so I’m running out of stuff to do. Currently I have primed the desk and have add a few coats of paint, plus I have started on the centre cover for the h100i, let’s see what you think.

there you go, still needs a lot of work on the paint before its finished.

Whats the spec of the machine thats going in there?

I'm assuming a man of your talents has taken into account the wood will expand / retract with heat and over the years?

Bet it weighs a ton too!

i would love to watercool it but can't aford it.

i have been running the same sort of desk for about two years and its all been fine,and i can carry it by myself so not that heavy.
