Hi all.

Just dealing with a few issues at the moment with my new setup. I am running the E6850 on air but for some reason will not overclock past 3370Mhz at x9...running cool but no joy.

Anyone ran the E6850 and had the same issues?

My understanding was I could push 3.6 running on air without much of a problem but not getting anywhere near it....

Thanks in advance for any help.

Here's my settings:

I'm quite new to the overclocking game, however I have read the OC guide within the forum but still a little unsteady on my feet!:rolleyes:

Any help would be great.

EDIT - forgot my RAM settings:

Re-read the second post on this thread.

Sorry....if your point is....answer the question's put to me then I will:

Are you running your ram at 1:1? Does the ram have enough juice?
RAM is 5:6 - RAM set to 2.1v

Also what voltage, tried bumping up the voltages?
Voltages are in images, not tried to bump yet until I have had some feedback from you guys :D

If you did mean the second post not including my own at the top then:

Voltages/timings are within images posted...a picture speaks a thousand words :D I have read, and understand that CPU's are different from one to the other but would like some input from a few people who have walked the same path......

Try this:

HTT 1.6 V
NB 1.5 V
SB 1.5 V
CPU VTT 1.45

PCI speed to 101 MHz
The other 3 settings on that menu to 200

CPU VCore 1.45
RAM Voltage 2.3 - 2.4
Disable vanderpool
Set FSB divider to linked and sync mode.

I have the same board with Ballistix RAM and a Q6600:

:D

Thank you...much apreciated....will give them a go and get back...again thank you very much.

Sorry bud, was answering the post above yours...must have missed it in the cross fire :D:D

Thanks a lot for all the info and links....starting on it right now.....

Will soon find out if my sense of smell works when a burning aroma passes by :eek:

Cheers...will keep you posted on my efforts. :)

No worries mate...the strikers are a bit fussy but once you know what you're doing with them they are solid! :D

Off to bed now - I'll check up on you tomorrow to see how you're getting on mate - lol :D

**TOP TIP***

Once you've got it stable at 3.3GHz, save settings as profile 1.

Save arsing about if you need to reset CMOS (or reset the COSMOS as one customer once put it to me on the phone :D - I swear I almost wet myself!!)

;)

I knew that computing had a deeper meaning, but to be able to reset the COSMOS, wow!! lol

Thanks for the tips, just about to start making my adjustments. Just one question, when you say save it as 'Profile 1', do you mean using the ASUS AI Booster software or within the BIOS itself?

Thanks guys.

I have made the changes but no bootup, not even POST. I did wonder about this bit:

PCI speed to 101 MHz
The other 3 settings on that menu to 200

I am running SLI so changing my other PCI-E slot to 200 might have caused an issue. I went back, made all the changes but left out the PCI-E clock change and all booted up nicely :D

I could not find any setting to disable 'Vanderpool', any ideas?

Also, due to syncing the divider it drops my RAM speed to 333, is this so when clocked the RAM has further room so as to not hold back the CPU increase?

Still trying to get my head around it :rolleyes:

Wow what a couple of days this has been!

I have been trying to get this thing OC'd but not really having much joy.

I have increased the voltages as per your specs but still seems to want to crash...mostly getting NTFS.sys BSOD errors before going belly up!

I have got my case about 15 degrees cooler which has taken my cpu down from 40 degrees to around 27 with no load so heat is not an issue anymore.

Heres the issues I'm having:

1) I can't find 'Vanderpool' anywhere in my BOIS to disable it.
2) I am now getting issues with loading/saving of profiles...even if I flash it again and make some changes then save as a profile it will not get to POST on reboot....the only way it will reboot after making changes is to not save the changes in to one of the profiles and just do a 'save and exit'.
3) When increasing the FSB within the BIOS, it will boot in to OS but as soon as I run any tests it will fail. I can get it stable at 3150Mhz...when I say stable I mean that the tests will run for a few minutes...not the 8 hours as needed.
4) I'm going off the colour blue!!:eek:

Phew...glad I got all that off my chest :D:D

Thanks a lot for the extra info.

I have disabled all occurrences of "Spread Spectrum". I have also found the 'Vanderpool' option.....yup I am blind!! Disabled Intel Speedstep.

I have increased the Core to 3300Mhz...and touching wood...all seems stable at the moment and only running at 32 degrees idle. I will run a test overnight to make sure all is well :D

Its a start...thank you very much for your help so far!!:rolleyes:

Here is my up to date CPUz screenshot:

Hope to take it further tomorrow :D

Sounds good to me!!!

Will set Prime95 going in a bit for an overnight ass wooping!!

Again, thanks for the help!

:p:p

Well 9 1/2 hours with Prime95...no errors....fanbloomingtastic!! The highest temp it hit under full load was 60 degrees..so looking good

I have noticed that even though I have specified 1.45v for the Vcore it only shows up as 1.36v within CPUz...is that Vdroop? If so, would it be best to increase it so it actually shows 1.45v in CPUz? If I needed to :D:D

Prime95-3300Mhz.JPG

And the next increase begins....

Yeah, got 1.41.

Have increased to 3394Mhz...just about to run a few tests.

Will post back in a bit if its all stable :D:D

OK just ran Prime95 for just over 4 hours @ just under 3.4Ghz (3392Mhz) and all ok...even the CPU temp didn't increase :D

And again....the next increase begins....i'm kinda getting hooked :eek:

I was wondering what the Blend test was....it only says that it does more tests on the RAM. Can anyone give me a better idea?

I have now clocked it up to 3.5Ghz and it seems stable but have not ass whooped it yet with Prime95!! But still ide @ 32 degrees.

:D:D

OK so thought I would give a quick update.....

Last night ran 10 hours on Prime95 @ 3.5Ghz without any errors...this is really working out well. Thanks to everyone who has helped me with this one, especially Andy who really got this thing moving :D:D

I will be pushing further today.....fingers crossed, and then I will be trying the blend test....don't know much about that one but seems that its the norm to push it through.

OK so I'm starting to get issues now...I wondered how long it would take

I tried increasing to 3600Mhz using the same Vcore (1.45v) but would not boot. So increased the core volts to 1.5v, and dropped to 3550Mhz, however even though it booted my anti-virus (NOD32) will not initialize...which I understand is a tell tale sign of system instability. I then dropped the Core volts to 1.485v but same thing happened....any ideas where I go next? :D:D

Just for your info, I ran a quick test with OCCT 1.1.1 and it reported a crash after just 5 seconds!!

Also do I need to increase the CPU VTT volts as well as the VCore? Both were sat at 1.45v.

Settings as of right now:

VCore 1.485v
HTT 1.6v
NB 1.5v
SB 1.5v
CPU VTT 1.45v
PCI 101Mhz
Mem timings - 5 - 5 - 5 - 15
FSB Divider linked, RAM in synced mode
CPU temp around 33 degrees idle
FSB 1576 @ 3550Mhz (x9 mp)

lol....glad its not just me who doesn't understand their own writing!!

OK....will get on with it and see where we go :D

Will be back in a bit hehehehe :D

Thanks again.....

Hi all

I pushed it to 3.6Ghz last night and all seemed really well....but overnight I ran a Blend test and one core failed after 3 hours:

Prime95_Blend-3600Mhz-fail.JPG

The OS seems stable. I'm not sure if increasing the Vcore would work with this one....any ideas? Prime does say to consult the stress.txt but there does not appear to be one.....

:(
