OC GPU 1st time help?

Hey guys,

As the title says, I fancy overclocking my GPU. It's my first time so I have a few questions to ask.

My GPU is the Gigabyte 970 G1 edition so I'm aware that this card can OC like a beast! Before I start what is the best program to use?

What programs do I need? What are the steps I need to take? I have a small understanding already. Any help would be great

Download MSI Afterburner as a start. There are other programs of course but that one is just my preference

Download some form of benchmark/stress test so you can see if you are gaining or losing performance.

Often before overclocking I will google around and see what others have hit with similar hardware so I have a rough estimate or where to be looking for. This can help save a bit of time rather than creeping up 5mhz a go.

Be wary that some cards might pass a bench or 2 but will fail during gaming sessions. My old 980ti would bench over 1.5ghz but would crash often in games if it was over 1.45Ghz.
