Hi I decided to OC my gpu the other day and when I was testing it in 3dmark I noticed my score had gone down ,
Does anyone know why this is:confused:

Your going to have a few more details than that my friend.

1) What make is your card. What brand/model
2) What sort of case and power supply do you have. Brand / model / wattage output
3) What values did you overclock to core mhz/memory speed mhz
4) What was your 3d mark score originally, and what is it now with the o/c ?

It may be that you've o/c'd it too much and your over the limit, and now it isn't working efficiently so it slows down.

It may also be thermal throttling as the overclocking made the card too hot, so it's slowing down to try and stop your card from burning out *literally*.

Lastly.... not ruling out the obvious, it may be that you using the different version of 3dmark now. 3dmark05 and 06 looks the same but you cannot compare the scores as 06 has a lot more features that make the score lower than 05.

As above ^ but amps on the 12v rail mean more.

It could also be you are CPU limited. I have found that there can be a sweet spot on GFX clocks and upping CPU speed makes a difference.

My card is an evga 8800 ultra KO edition
My case is a thermaltake armor and my PSU is an enermax galaxy 850W

My standard score was 13,901
I followed instructions online to clock the memory first take it upto a stable level then make a note drop it down, then I dis the same with the core and after combined the 2 which I did (only under test conditions ) and scored 13,757.
The mem clock was 1196 the max rivertuner would let me go to and the core speed was 685 again the max I could go to somthing to do with drivers .
I would like to say that when I cloked the memory to 1165 I got a score of 14037.
Maybe your right I have gone to far but I am new to this and yes it does get incredibly hot I was totaly amazed I even burnt my finger a bit when I touched the vent on the rear of the GPU.

Could be the card throttling. But you should be able to clock the card (or at least have the option to) a lot futher. Check the drivers are up to date and you have the latest version of Rivatuner.
