OC/UK on the move again?

There is no retail store anymore, and likely won't ever be.

I don't blame them, retail is expensive and dying

I still really enjoy retail though - there is no better feeling than walking through a tech store; no online website can compete with that but I understand why it's a dying business model

People even buy cars online without ever seeing them in person or test driving them; it's horrible but that's the future

OcUK doesn't have a shop you can walk around (been click n collect only since the world fell apart IIRC) so don't worry you're not missing anything :D

I'm sad about that. My partner and my wallet, less so :p

Agreed. I'm a culprit as I buy 90% of my bits online but sometimes a store can change your mind. I think about 10 or so years ago I was walking around a Maplin not really looking for anything was just on my lunch break. I wasn't really looking for a new keyboard but at the time I had my eyes on some chiclet styled boards cause I thought they looked cool. As I was walking down one of the aisles I just happened to drag my finger of a mechanical keyboard and I was converted immediately. Had there been no physical store where I could interact with that, I'd have been using membrane keyboards for even longer.

I completely get why companies prefer a website vs a store and having everything on display and even as a punter online shopping is much more convenient but you can't beat perusing some aisles and getting something unintentionally.

How I wish we had computer stores down here in the south-west. Seems the north has a strangle hold on all the shops.

I expect walking around a physical shop like OCUK would be like how I used to feel as a kid walking around computer fairs.
Grim up north ennit, people stay inside and play games instead of enjoying outdoors etc.

Any excuse to trot out the old "grim up north" thing, I'm a bitter southerner riled up about house prices so I've got to vent somehow.

Yeah, it's grim up here. Nobody should move up here. There's no scenery and it's jam packed. It's really expensive too.

It's not like I can look out of my window and see kites, kestrels and the occasional deer. It's horrid, southerners should stay down south.

* Whistles * :)

See, I told you to look on the positive side when they put that video billboard on the warehouse opposite :)

There never was a separate retail store, it was part of the warehouse. No reason they couldn't do it again.
It was never particularly impressive, and obviously if you have a store, you need to pay people to man it all the time.
Click and collect just means someone can pop out and chuck your stuff at you.

Not necessarily, the first two shops Millennium and the the first Overclockers on the corner at IMEX were like geek clubs and even had a coffee/tea machine so we could all discuss geekness.
When they moved to the third property inside the tunnel of IMEX there was still a shop counter where people queued for stuff but Mark put a stop to the 'geek club' element and rightfully so.
Sometimes it could be scary walking in there as a new customer and several blokes standing by the counter discussing tech.

I thought the shop at the old (Milehouse) site was very good in both layout and the kit on display, I can understand it arguably not being cost effective, that said I rarely visited when there was nobody in there buying stuff….

Never heard of them but glad to see things are going well for National Veterinary Services. I get all my pet upgrades from them.
NVS are a massive veterinary wholesaler. They supply 50% of the vets in the country on a daily basis. They had a massive unit in Talke Pits before this move. Used to be owned by Dechra pharmaceuticals before selling NVS and Nationwide Veterinary Labs in Poulton le fylde.
I used to run the Lab divisions Logistics

I sort of hope now they've got more space they might bring the store front back, if just a small display area.

I know that place (NVS) well, we ship pet food up to them from Somerset on a regular basis, they seem to enjoy keeping you waiting to unload for whatever reason! :D

I’m paid by the hour so it’s no real hardship….
