OCD about sorting files...

Every file on my machines has a place. It makes it much easier to find things, so I could never just dump them randomly.

All songs are ripped at lossless format, and all DVDs/Blu-Rays are ripped to .MKV. I won't accept any other format, as it'll mess my head up :p

An example of my file structure on my NAS.

Code:
Movies
   HD
     Batman Begins (2005).MKV
     ..........
     ..........
     ..........

   SD
     Pulp Fiction (1994).MKV
     ..........
     ..........
     ..........

TV Shows
   HD
     Heroes
        Season 1
           Heroes - S01E01.MKV
           ..........
           ..........
           ..........

   SD
     American Dad!
        Season 1
          American Dad! - S01E01.MKV
          ..........
          ..........
          ..........

That is neat! I mix avi(SD) files and HD(mkv) files together, I figure slowly avis will get filtered out.... however after seeing some of the old movies in HD, I've stopped trying to switch, some movies are just better be left in DVD quality.

I do it, but not because I have OCD, it's because I like everything being neat and tidy and in place, i do it irl too, my desk and desk drawers both at work and home are immaculate. :p

No hotlinking.

I used to care, my computer, desk, flat, office..... Then I realised 1) There are more important things in life, 2) Increased stochasticity is natural (Second law of thermodynamics/entropy increasing), 3) I know where everything is, despite the mess 4) Nosey people can't understand my system.

haha, maybe a little, but if something is untidy or out of place I don't think "zomg must move" I'll usually tidy up when I have time, but then again im not a messy person

if that makes any sense

i have a separate drive called media

on this drive there are subfolders for:

music
audio
samples/loops for music production
movies & tv shows (tv shows in separate subfolder to movies), movies then split by genre

not ocd-ish, just organised for easy finding :)

At some stage we have to realise that we aren't categorising and filing our stuff for the benefit of anyone else. Unless it's the Police once they've seized our PCs for some reason or other.

I don't bother on the desktop as 7 can search faster then I can go through a filesystem same goes for spotlight on the Mac.

That said, I wish my server was a little tidier.

I start to organise files every so often but i get sick of doing so after a few minutes when i realise how big the task is. I try to organise files and folders as i create/receive them now but i use a great program called 'Whereisit' which finds files in an instant.
