I hope this won't get deleted on account of being medical-related.

So I was reading the symptoms of obsessive compulsive personality disorder and pretty much all of them fit me exactly. This isn't to be confused with OCD, however; though I can attribute a lot of its symptoms to myself, too.

Anyway, I was wondering if any of you guys have been diagnosed with either of these disorders or think you may have them.

Theres a bloke in Winchester who has to go pick up all the cig butts in the city centre before he goes to work.

Poor bloke :(

What unusual traits do you have?

Yes. I'd prefer not to go into specifics, but I exhibit all of the diagnostic criteria which appear in the wiki article:

* Preoccupation with details, rules, lists, order, organization, or schedules to the extent that the major point of the activity is lost
* Showing perfectionism that interferes with task completion (e.g., is unable to complete a project because his or her own overly strict standards are not met)
* Excessive devotion to work and productivity to the exclusion of leisure activities and friendships (not accounted for by obvious economic necessity)
* Being overconscientious, scrupulous, and inflexible about matters of morality, ethics, or values (not accounted for by cultural or religious identification)
* Inability to discard worn-out or worthless objects even when they have no sentimental value
* Reluctance to delegate tasks or to work with others unless they submit to exactly his or her way of doing things
* Adopting a miserly spending style toward both self and others; money is viewed as something to be hoarded for future catastrophes
* Shows rigidity and stubbornness

Okay, so it's probably normal to exhibit a few of these, but that list describes me pretty damn well!

I laugh at these 'disorders' - since when was there a definition of a 'normal person'?

I have friends who claim to have dyslexia, and these other weird disorders.

ITS NOT CALLED DYSLEXIA LOVE, IT'S CALLED STUPID - ACCEPT IT.

Now, because she's clumsy, takes a little longer to read things, very slow at working things out like sarcasm, she'll be getting a nice little £4k busary and a laptop from the Uni.

Some councils in the UK choose not to recognise Dyslexia in their local schools.

Extra time in her exams? Sounds like she's playing the system.

No its just nicer to label herself as dyslexic...

As this Times article puts it,

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article561912.ece

According to Professor Elliott, the reputation of dyslexics as clever people who struggle with words has made the condition a popular label for those who have poor literacy skills. Winston Churchill and Albert Einstein are among those who are thought to have suffered from dyslexia.

"Public perceptions often link reading difficulties with intelligence and, in our culture, an attribution of low intelligence often results in feelings of shame and humiliation," he wrote.

"It is hardly surprising, therefore, that the widespread, yet wholly erroneous, belief that dyslexics are intellectually bright but poor readers would create a strong, sometimes impassioned demand to be accorded a dyslexic label."

I must admit that these disorder diagnoses seem to be handed out a lot more than they used to. Possibly to excuse peoples' stupidity, as you've said, but OC(P)D can really get in the way of your life. Just a little example: when given a task to do I spend way too much time perfecting superfluous parts of it and end up losing focus of the real task at hand. This means that I become terribly unproductive, given the amount of time I may put into something.

Depends on the work really. A lot of the time I'll start something and then after about 15/20 minutes think it's rubbish, scrap it\not even save it and go do something else. That's usually when I'm doing something creative (which is 80% of my work).

But I'd like to think that sometimes I do do something and it is perfect and so I probably take an average if not quicker amount of time to do that (if that makes sense).

Just depends!
