Octane Render - Cuda based GPU rendering

Interesting stuff, there are some real-time gpu renderer for animation to my knowledge, but this is indeed a great piece of technology. Indeed it is a shame about nVidia only gpu's, maybe ATi will want to get their hands on CUDA also now haha.

These people won't be stupid enough to keep it CUDA only once OpenCL hits off properly, they'd be losing a large amount of customers.

This is however extremely good news, I've been waiting for this type of thing for a very very long time (well not that long).

Its purpose is to be a physically correct, unbiased light simulator, the real time aspect comes from the increased render speed that will come from moving the calculations over to the GPU.

Ah from their FAQ page:

"Are OpenCL compatible cards supported?
OpenCL is currently not as mature as CUDA. As OpenCL matures, it is planned to be supported which will open up the video cards that will be able to be used with"

Yeah, they've basically said they'll be supporting OpenCL eventually themselves. From their FAQ:

OpenCL is currently not as mature as CUDA. As OpenCL matures, it is planned to be supported which will open up the video cards that will be able to be used with Octane Render.

Edit: Too slow. :p
