Octavia..

They are VAG now so generally speaking they are MUCH more reliable than they were back in the day.

I considered a vRS but never did get one.

My parents have a Skoda Superb 2.5 V6 TDI and its the best car we ever owned.

As long as people can get over the badge on the front, its an amazing car. If you took the badges off, it could easily pass for an Audi, and imo its much nicer than the more expensive cars the germans make :)

no way, my father has an 51 plate passat, his wife used to have an 03 A4 and my boss had an 03 octavia.

Spent a lot of time in all 3 cars and you could see why the audi is so much more for a similar car. It just had all the little touches right.

Again the passat felt better but the skoda hada lot of kit for the money, he's just got rid of it this week with 100k on it and 2 clutches  . He must rest his foot on the peda though

Skoda stands up well against fords / vaux etc but is a long way off executive car standards.

have an octavia and an A4 both 1.9tdi's

both lovely cars and bar some slight touches the octy is just as nice, :)

oh and a few grand cheaper too lol

seems to be the geral consensus, I'd have no problem buying one, If I was in the market for such a car it seems to be as good but cheaper and better spec'd than the opposition!

Yes I've got one, a black Octavia RS (old shape) :)

Yes I love it.

It's not reliable though :(

Current broken things:
1. CD Changer
2. Doors clunk going round bends
3. Squeaks going over bumps like a bag of kiddies toys being thrown down the stairs
4. Randomly refuses to go into first when at standstill

Things that were broken and have been fixed
1. Clutch squeaked when pressed - completely collapsed internally - replaced under warranty.
2. MAF failed - replaced under warranty.
3. In an attempt to fix (4) above: contents of gearbox replaced.

Current mileage is 19k

I considered the VRS (older shape), and to be honest even though it was a nice car (although not quite what I was looking for), i don't think I could have got past the badge. And yet i drive a SEAT

Isn't the Octavia Golf based though and not Passat (its the Superb thats Passat based right?) so a bit of an unfair comparison?

Yes, the Octavia is based on the Golf platform, and the Superb is based on a stretched Passat platform.

All that really affects though is the wheelbase, you can still judge quality that way..

Where have you been for the past 10 years?

Growing up- his profile states that he's only 15. Still not an excuse though, I was an avid car fan as a youngster.

RichDay, I can't believe you've had all those problems on a car that's not yet covered 20k

To be fair, the clutch (and more specificaly the dual mass flywheel) and the MAF have been problematic on this engine accross the entire VAG range, it's not specific to Skoda.

I can't realy fault my wifes 2.0L Octavia Estate, it's simply a very nice car to drive, has acres of room and has been totaly reliable. It has ~80k on it and still feels like a new car to drive, no squeaks or rattles etc. It does need more power to suit my driving style, but it's a lovely torquey engine for use around town and motorway cruising.

a friend of mine drove a superb 1.8T - didnt seem to handle too badly at all, probably cos of the wheelbase though :D gave a hyuandi coupe driver a shock (either the coupe is overrated or he wasnt trying)

apparenty the new 2.0 TFSI engine is fantastic and seeing as its bigger and cheaper than the golf why not?:D
