** October iPad Refresh **

Glad I held off getting one now. I only really need it for retina testing purposes so a 16GB should suffice. No doubt if I don't go for a larger capacity I'll end up regretting it later.

What colour did most of you go for with the 3?

Eating my hat. That said, I'm not bothered at all - given the screen, battery life, weight and design is no different there's no temptation to upgrade (especially not after 6 months) - and it's good in a way because it means the 5th gen one is probably a year away or more. Ports aren't a factor either since I don't use anything other than the charging cable.

what are apple thinking with the naming of the ipad range? Seriously makes no sense. People will call this ipad4 only to them bring out the 5th ipad nut apple will call it ipad4 next year.

or will they call it

"the new ipad with a new gimmick inserted here"

They should mirror the phones and call the middle refresh the S, tThis ipad should be called 3S

Well this new new iPad with retina display is a kick in the teeth for anyone that bought a 'new' iPad within the last 6 months.

I accepted the 12 month refresh thing but a new model after half a year!! I'm not bothered about the new lightning connector just that fact mine will lose even more value because of the updated model!!!

It's not about the connector really, it's about A5X vs A6X. The newer one is much more powerful. It has what the 3rd generation should have had in it.

sucks, Apple must have had this refresh in the pipeline when they released the ipad3, really taking the pi**
Was waiting for the mini but the pricing is ludicrous, but I bet there'll still be queues for it.

I was waiting on the iPad mini pricing too, and for the resolution of the device (I need something 'retina' for dev work) - it's too expensive. Guess I'll *have* to buy an iPad'4' now.

Perhaps, but the iPad 3 flies with everything I use it for. At least releasing a model at this time of year now means the iPad and iPhone will be very matched in specs, rather than their being a delay between the iPad getting the cool stuff the iPhone update gets - I don't think this release is indicative of refreshes being bi-annual as a strategy moving forwards.

Well not not like the A5X was slow to begin with, everything runs super fast on mine but a 6 month refresh is taking the ****. Thankfully there was no retina MacBook Air since I bought one a month ago!

There is, it's the Retina 13" MBP - it's certainly no Pro without the discrete GPU (:D)

Ha ha yeah I purposely chose to ignore the 13" retina pro, fatter than an Air and no dedicated nvidia chip. Basically paying 400 quid more for a nicer looking screen and little more else in terms of what it can do work wise. I have 8GB ram in my Air and it is super quick doing my work on.

I bought my Air about 6 weeks ago and unlike my iPad Gen3 don't regret it. Retina without a discrete GPU to push all those pixels is all show and no go!

:D $49 for the Lightning to HDMI connector, that's almost expensive enough to just buy an Apple TV instead for $99 and use Airplay :p
