OcUK 650W Dual Rail High Efficiency Modular Power Supply

This is often the case with power supplies, but can be thoroughly misleading. A 500W psu which offers 480W at 12V is far more useful than a 600W one which delivers 380W at 12V. That's before getting into the issue of cheaper psu's being rated at a 25 degree ambient temperature which they're rather unlikely to see inside a computer case.

It's deceptive. Leads to people buying cheap "750W" psus instead of expensive "400W" ones and ending up with dead components.

Google suggests this is the Powercool PSUPC650AUBAM. Reading through the quoted figures for the modular supplies is pretty reassuring, the 850W model offers two 12V rails at 34A. Hard to guess whether it can cope with 34A through both simultaneously. In fairness though they do look good on paper.

I cant seem to find a review of one, does anyone have a link?

My local pc shop sell`s cheapo psu`s and I got through 3 650Ws in about 18 months, so when I upgraded my CPU and before my next 650 blew I bought an Akasa PowerMax 1000 for 109 quid.

No ive looked and i cant find any as id be pretty interested in the 850w modular if these turn out to be any good. :)

Anyone know the amperage rating of the +12V rails for these PSUs?

Is the fuse of your existing PSU user changeable? On more expensive models they are but fuses blow for a reason, so even if a change out works, you want to keep an eye on your rig.

I have read a number of good reviews for the Antec True Power 650Watt, re quiet and stability, and am now trying to find reviews of their 750watt model.

It should be ok for a single card, but if going for dual cards in the future I would want one with single rail.

I take its for another system and not the one in your sig.

Yeah its for my brothers PC I am upgrading. Although just checked and he already has an OCZ 600SXS so going to use that, I thought he had a different one hence the search for a new one.

thanks for the reply. :)
