Two things I'd like a state...

1) 'IF' another competition is run I'd strongly advise everyone take the time to read through the suggestions and air any concerns or ask any questions. This is a major benefit to everyone involved.

2) I should have just left this as the 'Shilling round', my mistake and I hereby put it on record as the first time a rule has been changed midway though the competition. Lesson learnt.

N - Numbered (anything related to money ie Shilling beer etc)

It was also agreed symbol ie £ $ etc and slang.

Votes required for:

Mike306 - Brakspear 'Oxford' Gold

PapaLazaru - 24K Golden Ale

pingwing - Corona Extra

Mike306 stated in his email:
The Beer is 'Brakspear Oxford Gold' http://www.brakspear.co.uk/our_beer/
and the slang term is 'Oxford' being the slang for 5 shillings

References;

"oxford = five shillings (5/-), also called a crown, from cockney rhyming slang oxford scholar = dollar, dollar being slang for a crown." http://www.learnenglish.de/slang/moneyslang.htm

"Oxford 5 shillings or a crown [cockney rhyming slang = Oxford Scholar]" http://www.ladykentmores.com/page15.htm

"Oxford - 5 shillings or a crown [derived from Oxford Scholar which rhymes with dollar which, pre-war, was just under 5 shillings" http://www.aldertons.com/money.htm

Papalazaru stated:
Well mine is bloody lovely and it ought to be, at £2.99 for a 33cl bottle.

Pretty sure it can count as I have asked a few people what would I mean if I said ***, and they all said 'an amount of money'.

I wish the country it is from made some more of this type of craft beer as they are generally known for only a couple of brands.

pingwing stated:
Corona Extra my good sir, Corona is Latin for crown, crown is a money in places like Denmark and Czech Republic and other places.

Don't forget...

ALL with a valid entry have a vote on Mike306, PapaLazaru and pingwing.

Seabiscuits non entry, I'm sorry mate as you can see with the image posted I didn't receive anything from your goodself. It has happened before and the result was the same, no points.

DJ, can I ask IF it does arrive, can you look at all the mesage header detail stuff to see the time it was sent to maybe reconsider at that point. Not holding out much hope that it will arrive, but none the less, it at least gives me some hope.

If it does arrive I'll gladly post in here the details. Having said that, the rules clearly state:

4) You may send your picture into the competition email address from the Sunday night right up until the Saturday but the email MUST be in the inbox by 8.00pm of each Saturday night (anything after this time will NOT count).

Lesson learned Seabiscuit, always ask the question. One of the earlier rounds the photo disappeared from my email to DJ somehow despite being there in my sent items.

Commiserations!

Not just you Windle. In the first competition a reply message was setup to try and confirm an entry being received. Sadly even this didn't always work.

I have no problems whatsoever replying to 'have you got my entry' posts in main thread.

Oh and Windle it was:

'I present the almighty "Cutthroat Porter" by Odell Brewing Co'

...still no image

Odell Brewing Co. 90/ Shilling Ale is pretty good :)

Been ages since I had my William Bros. 80/ Shilling Ale but it was rather tasty indeed :)

Edit:

PapaLazaru - Yeah, I can't help but think 24k in terms of money.

Mike306 - Yes, simply because I learnt something.

pingwing - No, simply because you lowered the tone with that entry :p

Well Sonea _Fifer has voted, but he was wrong about making no difference...

If he had voted No on Mike306 then he would have had 5 from 10 and therefore no majority, but he didn't so PapaLazaru and Mike306 get their points. Poor pingwing, well he knew already. I'll update everything later as I'm busy killing a case of Bud outside :D
