Thinking of getting a pet bird always wanted one. What do you guys have and how do you find them as pets?

What would experienced of you recommend? Looking for a medium sized parrot really who would make good pet, I was originally thinking of a cockatiel but they seem a bit dim compared to parrots. Then I thought of maybe getting an indian ringneck but they are too loud it seems.

So i've been considering either

Senegal parrot (too quiet though so i've heard and can be very introvert)

Images deleted, as we don't allow hotlinking.

Quaker (fun birds however potentially loud, very extrovert)

or a breed of conure (most leaning towards half moon conure because they are smallest apparently very good breed for pets extrovert and fun) they can be medium loud. Many breeds but its between green cheek and half moon, sun conure out of question too noisy apparently.

Half moon conure

Green cheeck conure

Have an African Grey parrot, a Cockatiel, two Budgies and a Canary.

African Greys are great parrots, but require a lot of attention and care and are pretty expensive to buy and are bloody noisy!

Conures are nice birds and not that big either, have a look round some breeders to see some different parrots and get some advice before you buy one. Be careful if you look in those garden centres that have pets in, they will most likely rip you off.

Hahah yeh I would love an african grey but too big dont have space! what would you say cockatiels are like?

Yeah I know garden centers overcharge massively. Know any websites where you can buy birds from breeders etc?

I know one birdtrader.co.uk seems ok

Cheers.

Cockatiels here!

They're very messy, very noisy during the daytime, love to explore and if there's more than one then they'll pay less attention to humans than normal!

Ohh thats an amazing hawk. Aswell holy cow... lol

Edit: Also anyone know where to potentially get cheap cages? 2nd hand maybe? ebay seems okayish...

ahh yes rainbow parakeets was tempted to get one of them aswell they are really cute birds.

For those who keep birds of prey; Id love to hear your views on the level of skill involved in keeping them, as well as costs, time involved etc. I would love a bird of prey but think its just a dream for me for the forseeable future.

African greys, i can't for the life of me why these are suggested as a good starter parrot, they require a lot of attention and looking after, nice birds mind, ours is a bit too smart.

I would say get either a conure or senegal, both are great characters. Our senegal was always up to mischief and loved a good scrap, very playful and very nosey he always had to see what was going on.

Bear in mind they are very quick so be careful when you let them out.

A quaker would probably be a noisy pita, trust me you'll get fedup with the racket.
