This is the way i connect.
Start CoD2 Multiplayer, select the player profile and press ok
Hit the `(above the TAB key and next to 1) key to bring down the console.
type "/connect 123.123.123.123:xxxxx" where 123.123.123.123:xxxxx is the ip and port for the server. So to connect to the [SoE] server i do

/connect 213.253.57.53:28960

Hope that makes sense.
