Hello all,

I was wondering how many people think it would be a good idea for OcUK to start setting challenges in the forums for members to win stuff. For example, a challenge to see who can get the highest stable overclock of a 7600gs (screenshots as proof). Winner would get an x1950 pro or something. Or, maybe a best case mod category as voted by the OcUK moderators. Just thought it might boost OcUK's credibility on the enthusiast scene by creating more interest and would inevitably get more visitors to the site. I got the idea from another forum that does this, and although I know OcUK are just a retailer, It would be nice to offer this kind of thing to existing customers/forum members.

What do you think?
Any Thoughts/Ideas/Comments?

How many people think getting free stuff it a good idea? You'll get no shortage of yes votes there :)

How many people think giving away free stuff is a good idea - well you and I both know you only need one vote for that, I don't think your likely to get it though.

Lol. The only reason OcUK would do this is out of goodwill. As a business, they have absolutely no obligation do hold such events unless it is for marketing purposes.

Getting more visitors to this site, and getting visitors to buy stuffs off this site is entirely 2 different thing. Unless OcUK can confirm and done enough market research to say that by holding such events is = more customers + more purchase, then I doubt such an event would take place.

What I would suggest for OcUK to do is, to make more deals such as " the weekly deals ".

Promotions is always a good thing when it comes to attracting consumers. OcUK's main competitor **** is definitely going into the right direction.

- Accepting shop queries etc on forums. <- this does get customer satisfaction.
- Accepting ideas from consumers what they would like to see on their deals.
- And a lot more.

Retaining regular customers is important, hope OcUK actually realizes that.

Well anyway there are a lot of ways OcUK can do to gain credibility, but definitely not doing events that will not benefit them.

This sort of thing wouldn't work anyway. The people getting the highest clocks would be those willing to spend lots of money on exotic cooling solutions. If they could spend so much on high-end water or phase or some'at, they probably can afford an X1950 Pro anyway.

The stuff they give away needent cost the company anything. I bet they get loads of free samples from various manufacturers.

that they can sell or use

Not trying to be a kiss up but I don't think OcUk need to change a thing! The prices are good, the customer service is good and the forums are #1 for tech support!

I think they should award certain individuals with free carriage like a rival competitor does, that would be a good idea :) suprised it doesn't exist already.

Whenever I post a webnote I get quick and useful replies and my orders are always shipped v.quickly :) I can't complain about the prices either :D

But one x1950 Pro per month that costs £135 retail would be cheaper than giving everone free shipping over a month, wouldn't it.

Just air cooling only perhaps, It would be purely as a challenge anyway the x1950Pro or whatever is just a by-product of winning.

Also, there would be more categories such as best case mod, multi-screen setup, etc.

A lot of people have 8800s now, so what will they do with x1950 Pros? Sell them on the MM, depressing the new market for them even more.

Free carriage is a very sensible idea. You could downgrade it to 2nd class recorded delivery to save on cost, and then people would get cheaper things from OCuk rather than just saving up for a big order and (maybe) going elsewhere.

As though maintaining a forum like this isn't expensive enough?

It's a good idea but not financially viable (not on a regularly basis anyway) considering that there is no advertising on this forum and all funds come from OCUK's profit.

And of course as suggested the effectiveness of such event to boost OCUK sales is questionable.
