I'm also a big fan of the RepRap/MakerBot projects and plan to get my own Makerbot in the near future. 3D printing and CNC machines are something that really interest me, probably because it involved making stuff, programming and computers. You'll probably see some posts from me regarding this within the next 3-4 months.

You mean one of these?

thats just the firmware flashing for the sanguino. I hand soldered all the SMD boards myself, the latest ones all come fully assembled.

I am currently waiting on 6.5lb ABS plastic from botmill in the states, and the heated build platform and MK5 plastruder wheel from Makerbot themselves.

Mine is serial number #28 and I believe it may have been the first in the UK. I dont seem to have a fully assembled picture! Though I have 2 vids on utube under username: themodblog

I also built myself a dew heater system for my telescope. Dual Channel PWM controller and made my own heater bands from Nichrome wire.

i really like this sort of stuff, Electronics mixed with computers.

I used to build a few projects before i actually started to work full time in the electronics business, now I see to much at work to even pick up an soldering iron at home.:p
Working in the dark art of RF and high end stuff, making amps at home just aint no fun no more, i did have a drawing for a taser around somewhere i wanted to make, couldnt get any one to help me test it though.:D

Yeah, I'm quite aware of your presence on the Makerbot scene, I've seen you post about it on here several times. I've also seen your shop and the stuff that you have on Thingiverse plus your Entry near the top of the MakerBot linage. I'm a contributer on the MakerBot Wiki and have been following it and the RepRap projects for several years now.

I'm looking to buy one soon but I'm anticipating that they have some new kit up their sleeve as there is a ton of unreleased/experimental stuff in their SVN and several videos from NYC Resistor on YouTube which seems to be their MakerBot playground. I guess I'll just go for it and then add any new stuff on later, I think I'll got for the $750 kit and add on some stuff from their store.

I did consider the RapMan which is about £750 (about the same as the MakerBot after shipping and import taxes) but it is not open source and I don't like the design as much.

I would get one if I was you! I just like showing mine off :D. I havent done much with it, but that is all changing soon. I plan on making quite a few parts and getting myself back into the hobby. I would definatly add an emergency stop if you do!

The MK5 plastruder is nearing completion and the drive wheel is far superior to the old one that I currently have. I cannot help but watch every print that I do. Still find it fascinating! I love all the work that nophead has put into this, his continuing work is just fantastic! I do fancy making myself a mendel with my makerbot, but its a lot of printing! I could buy the complete printed set, there is one on eBay all the time (nopheads I believe)
