I'll sell my race car to my wife for 500 quid then buy it back ;)

 It's funny you say that I was thinking the same, sell the 911 to the cat or wife and buy it back, mind you I'll still lose as I don't have the skills to extract everything from it. I think some rules will need to be put in place here. :)

I hear theres a CAT D Celica GT out there somewhere which you might be able to get within budget? :p

I think you can get over 200bhp for 500 quid based on my research and with a turbo I think you could get a mate with a laptop to make that more....

Just saying

You've got me intrigued now. I don't even need the mate with a laptop to make it more

I think the best way to implement a rule to prevent any financial shenanigans, dodgy deals or people pulling parts out of their shed and declaring them as zero/minimal cost is to have a fixed 'sale price' for the cars. For example, if the budget for the event is £500 the fixed 'sale price' might be £750 (to allow some room for manouver to account for value added to vehicles by the work done to them). At the end of the event if someone offers the sale price for your car you must sell it to them at that price in the condition in which it competed.
