Managed to get an exclusive for you guys on OCZ's fastest 2.5" SSD. It's got rather fast speeds as you can see from the specification along with support for TRIM. It's a limited run so you need to get in there if you want one.

OCZ Vertex Limited Edition 100GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive (OCZSSD2-1VTXLE100G) @ £309.99 inc VAT

If it was my money I'd always go for performance. The whole point of SSD is to get high performance so unless you can afford a big drive anyway then you're better going for a faster SSD and using a mechanical drive for storage.

original idea was the 120gb with a couple of 1tb for storage, pick it up and build tuesday, the 100gb's eta would mean having to wait an extra week and this laptop is killing me :p

Ill stick with the 120gb for now as im an impatient so and so :D and pick up a faster one at a later date. Im already £1100 over my original budget and i reckon my mrs would use my balls for a vase if I go any further rofl :D

thanks for the advice

Well isn't there 2 sandforce chips? So maybe the LE means its using the server oriented chip? Although by the sound of it thats the one they were going to use in the Vertex replacement anyway... I dunno.

But they hinted that cheap NAND could be used, so maybe thats what will happen and this is not cheap NAND?

I think what I am saying it, the "Limited Edition" tag needs much more qualification.

The capacity seems to be the tell-tale sign it's using the sandforce controller. As the vertex 2's will be available in 50,100,200,400gb etc

I think what they mean by cheap nand is 34nm nand.

Nah one of them even referenced using cheap cheap NAND like the **** they stick in USB drives (actual example they gave).
34nm is just cheaper for manufacturer really. If it has a performance benefit it'll be more expensive to end users.

tasty but pricy. Bring out a 64GB version for £100 and i'll upgrade from my crucial :P Its nice to see an ssd that can fully utilise sata2 tho.

Can I ask what you have specced up and the total you are now intending to spend?? lol.

Cheers

hehe have cut it down slightly total is at £2025 now, was going i5, eyefinity, 5850 in x-fire. but dropped the eyefinity and saved 530 notes (extra monitors and adaptor) :D
