Hi there

I've just been looking at the card the OcUK tech team has been putting through it paces the last week and well lets just say its very flash bit of kit. :)

to clarify before the question is asked.

the card does not come pre overclocked. however, this deal is based on the card in my current rig.

the Asus card has been a great clocker and that is why we are offering it with a waterblock.

my personal card runs at very high clocks 24/7
the ones we have tested come close to this on air.
it also nets a LOT of PPD when folding.

all of these blocks will be fitted by myself personally :)

Could you create a custom bios and flash the card so it becomes pre overclocked. I'm not sure if you can flash the fermi cards, not really looked into it.

This is a brilliant idea..... Ive been waiting for OCUK to block a card....

QQ if you want a non Asus card would you block that?

We are only going to be using MSI / Asus cards for this due to the voltage tweak software they come with, making them ideal candidates for users who wish to overclock.

What the chance of OC supplying a complete Pro Gamer PC build with 1 (maybe 2) of these really nice GPUs installed or as an optional extra?

I ask because I have no clue with water cooling. I'm looking at a performance PC to last a few years and this card fits with what I'm looking for. Being single slot is great too so I could keep my X-fi.

rjkoneill, would you say in your opinion that this is the best overclocking GPU with watercooling on offer atm? And what CPU did you use alongside this card as I didn't see you mention it ?

Thanks :)

Rjkoneill,
Excellent result there m8 :)
May I ask what the default vgpu is of your GTX480?

Thanks

we could do that, but the case would have to accomodate at least a triple rad for the GPUs and at least a double rad for the CPU. unless you ran the cpu on a high end air cooler and put it in an 800D

there isnt a great deal of point in watercooling i7 unless you are running a gulftown [6core] or a massive overclock. [we only warranty up to 4.2ghz anyway]

theres no point going SLI on the 480s unless you are gaming above 1900X1200, so technically you could go for one gpu and the cpu in one loop.

due to the weight of watercooled graphics cards, we do ask that any fully watercooled systems we build are collected from our shop to avoid courier damage.

the 480 clocks exceptionally well under water. i have had the best results consistantly with the asus cards. only the 5970 performs better but is a little too inconsistant for my liking [i am not a fan of multi gpu cards]

i used an i7 970 for that vantage run above :)

i honestly cant remember if im being truthful.:o
i only ever took it up a few notches though. the watercooling keeps the temperatures at very safe levels

Could you check by loading up MSI afterburner after a restart and noting the default voltage please?

Also, how are you managing the EK backplates on the ASUS and MSI cards when your website claims "CAUTION: Due to extra chips on ASUS 480GTX and MSI 480 GTX PCB design, EK-FC480 GTX Backplates are not compatible (with these cards) until next revision."

We have had spacer kits sent to us from EK to mount the backplates successfully, basically the backplates weren't making enough clearence before the spacers.

The default VID if memory serves me here, is: 1025 vcore in Afterburner, you can easily reach 800MHz (default memory speed) on the core with this and 850MHz (2000MHz memory) + with 1113 vcore

Thanks for the clarification.....does that mean that if I order the backplate from you, then it comes with the spacer kit ?

Thanks for the reply rjkoneill, you've giving me much food for thought.

You said the 5970 performs inconsistently, is that across all brands or is there one that stands out better than the rest? I'm considering all options here, thanks :)

i mean with the driver support really. the 5970 is a great card but it only beats 480 SLI on the value for money and powersaving front.

there are a few titles [Metro and DOW for example] where a 5970 performs worse than a single 5870 which is really frustrating.

either way 480/5970 is a great choice whatever you decide on.

these 480 cards are flying out of the door at the moment. :D
