OcUK HQ Motors Meet - Saturday 3rd March 2018

I think if it's postponed it'll be a better turn out. Not everyone lives near hq and travelling in the conditions if it remains similar to what it is now will be difficult for some.

Plus the weather may actually get better. With it being a somewhat outside event I think it'll be more enjoyable.

If the forecast remains as is, the event is still on but lets see what the state of the roads are like tomorrow afternoon but it seems the strong winds are pulling the weather in quicker and the worse of it was today and tonight. :)


P.S. I then propose we hold another meet at OcUK HQ say in 1st/2nd week of May and then maybe another towards end of year, say Sept/Oct time.

Just looking at the BBC weather website,it's forecasting for Newcastle under Lyme light snow tomorrow from 17:00 - 03:00 and the forecast for Saturday currently predicts temperature highs of freezing (1c for an hour) or below with light wind, no matter how you look at it, that doesn't represent any fun standing around outside on a car park.

Hate to say it,but I think postponing would be the prudent move here. :(

Nobody would have reasonably predicted this weather for early March so no fault on Gibbo's part.

Early May should be much better,then again, as I say, who would have thought this for the first days of spring?!?

I'm down south again tomorrow and don't realistically expect to be back tomorrow night and given the forecast for the south, frankly I'd be surprised if I'm back by Saturday lunchtime at best...

I can no longer make this for reasons other than the weather (like, I might not have a job on Monday). If the proposed May version goes ahead I'll try and make that.
 
I would recommend postponing it for three reasons:

1. The roads should be left to those with vital jobs - HGVs delivering food, nurses driving to work, etc
2. Standing around in a 1 degree car park looking at cars? Even the hardest of petrol heads would struggle with this
3. I couldnt make the date anyway, and would like to have come :p
 
Yup I would have got the message out yesterday that it has been postponed so more chance of people knowing. If it is postponed I'll deffo turn up to the next date aswell same as the others.

Cannot see people wanting to risk their cars and stand about in this boltic weather. Well i woukd happily risk my car but I wouldn't stand about outside. I was cold at santapod n sat in my car most of the time :p
 
I too vote to postpone. Conditions around OCUK might not be too bad but I can tell you that down south, especially in more rural areas, the roads are horrible and I doubt I’d even get mine out of the village.
 
How many are actually still planning to attend IF it goes ahead tomorrow? Seems most people are not coming now tomorrow anyway, even if it is not delayed.

I'll still make an appearance if it's on, but some parts of the event simply aren't going to happen. Demonstrations of detailing products... they won't work sub 0c. Prize for the cleanest car... If I drive more than 8 feet the amount of salt on the roads mean that the car is disgusting. Passenger rides are going to be slow, steady (or not at all).

Just seems a little, well, pointless.
 
I’m doubtful at best I’m afraid.

I’m doubtful I’ll be back in time, I’m expecting to be out overnight tonight which wasn’t the original plan.

Another thing is I’d like the car (and truck) to be clean, the local jet washes are all frozen - and that won’t change - our truck wash has been frozen all week, not much fun showing two filthy vehicles....

The original plan was for my other half to drive my e38 and me to work to get the truck,then she was going to bring the e38 behind me, she lives in Stone where snow is forecast from 15:00 today through until 02:00, she won’t want to venture out in the morning after that (her housing estate is untreated and treacherous already) and I frankly don’t blame her.

If it’s still going ahead, I’ll try to pop by once / if I’m back, it’s certainly not working out for me as I’d anticipated or hoped for though unfortunately.

Again, nobody’s fault, just rotten luck.

Absolutely still up for a rescheduled meet though - hopefully with kinder weather!

Im gonna say no now I think, just because it sounds like a lot of people arent going, and its a long way to drive for a meh afternoon in the cold.

I live around the corner so I’ll probably take a drive over still. Most of the other ‘86’s have bailed though.
 
I will still be attending tomorrow and providing pizza, even if there are not so many going. It will save me a few quid too :)
 
UPDATE: The Facts!


Is the event still on? YES!
Time: 10am - 4pm, of course I'd suggest people arrive around midday and all leave before 3pm.


Anyone dropping out, will not be called names we fully understand some parts of the country are worse than others, we also understand that for some getting here is not an issue.

Of course tomorrow will be cold, of course you can stand outside and talk, cook marsh mellows on engines but our shop will be available with plenty of seating and snacks for those who wish to chat about cars and computers in a nice warm area.
Lee from Antec shall still be attending and providing pizza and our racing simulators shall still be active and as long as more than 10 people enter the lap time, the fastest still wins a chair. :)

Discounts will still be available and authorised by myself.


NOW FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT MAKE IT, we shall be holding another similar (identical) event on May 12th 2018, one would hope the weather to be somewhat better, but hey it has snowed before in May, but as March is booked up for other events, April also a no go, we only have first two weeks of May available and first week of May is a bank holiday weekend so not suitable. Rest of May and June is not available as I shall be out the country.

We shall then look at an end of year event around Sept/Oct at OcUK HQ also if the May event is a success. :)
