*****OcUk London Photography Meet WITH STARS!!! November 3rd*****

Engine blew up today, cars pretty much a write-off.
Anyone from Oxfordshire going to this?

Ouch!

If I drive I can do an Oxford route, at the moment though I'm more likely to get the train if I travel from home. I might be going straight there from Cambridge on the Friday night though as another option... Although then I'd have to lug my works laptop around as well thinking about it, so that's not likely!

That's sucks, sorry to hear that :(

:(

Also ManCuBuS, didn't even see your post, that's bad news man :(

Cheers fellas.

Poo happens I guess but the house is paid for and we don't have any debt at all so I'm not too concerned at this point.

I more gutted because I actually like my job and the people I work with are a great bunch, the company have just decided to move operations to Asia.

I guess it will put any photography related investments on hold for a while..........maybe ;)

You know what this means then, start making money from photography :D

Haha, armed with Sony gear? Surely thats never been done before? :D:p

Also I'm extremely lacking in the talent department so would probably get punched a lot for providing cack pics.

Well I'd planned on getting the train but my laziness has got in the way of me actually booking the tickets so I could be possibly bringing down the family diesel chariot.

I'm coming from Nottinghamshire so if you are on the M40 side of Oxfordshire I might be able to swing by and pick you up.

Ouch!

Thanks for the offer guys, and sorry to hear of your bad news ManCuBuS.
Not sure if I'm going yet, a new car is my top priority, but if I have any cash/time I can spare, then I might tag along.

The pro at my sisters wedding was shooting Sony :)

Must have been a dare or something. :D

Nah seriously, landscapes, animals, randoms I'm pretty ok with. If you don't nail it on the first attempt you just do it again and they aint paying you.

However snapping people for money scares me to death, I dont know why but it does.

On the hand I suppose you'll never learn to swim if you never get in the water.

It's scary because you know it you mess it up, you've ruined someones memories of an event!

I dont think its the actual picture taking that bothers me.

Its the interaction with the subject to get the best out them, I wouldn't have a clue and I'm about as charming as a rabid dog.

Yes, that's the scary bit. (and what I thought you were referring to anyway)

Meeting a couple of strangers for the first time in a car park to do a shoot isn't fun. You have to put your brave face on, or else it will be an awkward train crash. I always feel a little uncomfortable and out of my depth, but I can't let the client(s) see even a glimpse of self doubt.

It's often the same for the subjects really, a few have told me how much they were dreading the shoot. For them it's possibly worse, they are meeting a stranger with a camera (often they don't like having their picture taken), and they often feel that their pictures will suck badly, and that they are really un-photogenic.

Below is what a bride said regarding a shoot that's scheduled to be published on a blog this coming Monday.

"James is, of course, a natural in front of the camera. I'm the polar opposite - nervous, rigid and trying to avoid being in front of the lens at every opportunity. I'm well known amongst our friends for taking copious amounts of photos but never appearing in any without a trusty prop (friend or other).

It's no exaggeration to say I was dreading the engagement shoot. Whilst I had every confidence in our photographer xxxxxxxxxxx (having fallen in love with his work months ago) I firstly couldn't imagine that with me as 50% of his subject matter the results would be pleasing on the eye and secondly wasn't sure about the notion of an 'engagement shoot' (imagining some kind of soft focus, fixed grin, catalogue posed images that would never grace our albums).

But I'm so glad that xxxx encouraged us to have the shoot. The results are beautiful (I think he may be a magician!), I feel far more relaxed about the photos for our wedding day and love that fact that they reflect us at our best - larking around doing 'Blue Steel' impressions in a field full of bewildered sheep!

"

It does however give you a buzz if all goes well (it's never not gone well so far - touch wood), and it doesn't take long before everyone is actually having fun.
