Hi,

For the past couple of weekends I have been working on a OcUK mobile web app and I wanted to open it up for testing. I have only really had the opportunity to test it on desktop browsers so I would appreciate feedback from real users. It can only do tasks that a non logged in user can do as I don't want to be in the business of storing users passwords or cookies.

As you can see I need to get a shorter URL. :p

There are a couple of issues that I have still to fix:

  • OcUK image on the home page is too big.
  • A bookmark icon needs to be created.
  • Sometimes the 'go to last page' button does not work.
  • Images don't scale to the browser window.
  • Some threads don't appear to work. (Looking into this one as it's a bit of a pain)
  • A bit laggy on Android as I believe only 3.0 has hardware acceleration within the browser.
  • It is built using JQuery mobile which is currently in alpha so there might be some graphical oddities.

So as you can still a fair few bugs to fix but I wanted to open it up to see if people find it useful. :)

Thanks.

There's a website that can turn a website like that into an apk. Let me go and find it, sec..

Ah here: http://www.appsgeyser.com/OcUK.apk

You can test the website easily that way, the app isn't exactly revolutionary, it just uses the web browser inside.

About time someone attempted at creating a mobile friendly of the site :)

Just tried it on my incredible s and it works. My biggest gripe is the font size, its abit too big.

Nice work so far. Can't help but feel that if the forum had tapatalk integration like some of its competitors, it would be a lot easier a solution. I hear its not a difficult mod.

Seems silky on my dell streak, so should work on the asus fine....
Just could do with a fade in animation between switching screens or selected posts, as I get flicker of new page old page then loads new page all in about a2 second gap.
But I have been waiting for this;-)
How about a button that says reply which loss your browser and auto sends you to ocuk loginpage, but will link back to the right thread??

But, nice that the OP has done so much work on it, why is it needed?

On both the smartphones I've had VB works fine as it is, it's an easy site to navigate on phones/tablets...

All that's done is essentially changed the design slightly...

(Sorry OP)

Awesome! A bit laggy on my galaxy S but it works pretty well. I would make the gray bars a bit thinner though as I'd like tobe able to see more than 3 threads on the screen or have the ability to zoom in and out.

Other than that, well done on what you've achieved so far!

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I know it has problems but I wanted some real feedback before going any further just to make sure I was not wasting my time.

I will look at the fixes/improvements everyone has suggested.

I think it is a real shame that the forum doesn't have Tapatalk. That said, I just moved to Opera Mobile, and thankfully everything is nice and smooth. Just tried your link, and it is great or surfing the site. Performance could be a bit bettwr, but it works well overall :)
