What do you think to the current networking range that we have and how do you think our current pricing is against other competitors?

Remember there is to be no linking to competitors.

Many Thanks. :)

Hi,

I think your network range is quite extensive, infact bigger than many competitors on the web. So congrats on getting a fantastic range of items.

In this instance, you have mutiple brands with many different types of modem/routers, and the current way of trying to locate a specific router is quite complicated. I think you should split the type of router by brand and type (wired/wireless).

The split beteen wireless and conventional should really be a pure split between wireless and wired routers and then others (other types/misc. products).

I am trying to find the Netgear DG834GT..I don't know where that is, but from the current way of listing, I cant seem to find it. Although, from going into other links, you have the other types of Netgear routers which is good. (the DG834GT is a best seller for enthusiasts along side the Belkin 7633 because of the way you can use CLi tweaks to maximise the speed just like the Belkin and Speedtouch routers which handles noise very well [the Netgear 834GTpersonally helped me to go from 4.5Mbit to 7.7Mbit] )

Couple of other brands such as billion and Speedtouch should be considered if possible.. the Speedtouch 585v5 /v6 //716 seems to handle noise much better than other brands.

The pricing is okay. No need to move on that. - but to be really competitive you should check up on the pricing against competitors - like the Belkin wireless 125mbps is selling on a competitors website for £66.05 incl. tax where it's £71.09 incl. tax here... the prices of other routers vary up and down, but ultimately very close. (OcUK nudge ahead of the competitors by an average of £5 per router - so that's still very cool in any case)

Finally you should make clear which routers are/are not ADSL2 compatible - many that are compatible do not say it. Since ADSL2 is becoming more popular, especially with many ISP's offering the product, this should be mentioned clearly on each router description.

In terms of business logic, I suggest taking the best routers for specific brands rather than stocking lots of routers from many brands. Unlike computer components, it's rare people will buy another router, this is usually the only component not changed a lot.

I would think spec'ing up the best of each brand, (like the DG834GT for Netgear) would be a good idea, and making them competitive in price would be great. Knowing that enthusiasts are the largest % of buyers from OcUK, you can guess that finding the best router to tweak for maximum speed would be the first choice on their minds.

In terms of popularity:
- 1 ) Speedtouch 585/716
- 2) Belkin 7633 - a top seller everywhere- (currently in your arsenal :) )you should try and accomodate a competitve price for this
- 3) Netgear 834GT + other Netgear routers
- 4) Other misc routers - such as D-link which you already stock/ and other items

I could go on forever talking about this...but in anycase, kudos OcUK, I can tell you're growing really really well as a company :)

I like many other people have found belkin to be unreliable, probably why they are the cheapest. I bought a belkin 125Mbps wireless router and had constant signal problems.

It's actually pretty extensive I've found, never ventured into it before the other day, was pleasently suprised ;)

I agree if you look at the netgear site you can now get pre N wireless routers which I would love to get :)

I think more range would be good

I think that the range and pricing is fantastic, but I do think navigation could be improved. That goes for the whole site, to be honest, as other sites have excellent drop-down lists, search, and compare functions coming out of their ears and it's kind of a pain having to scroll down a huge list of products just to find what you want with no way of comparing except by opening more browser tabs.

The Netgear DG834PN is about £15-£20 more than some competitors are selling it for. Add shipping costs to that, and it's quite expensive.

Good range though - I tend to use the OcUK site more than any other just eto browse through products and see what's available.

Yeah when you add shipping which some other places actually do for free ocuks products arent actually that cheap in comparison. Just a few popular products taken at random.

Netgear DG834PN
Ocuk £109
Other £83

Netgear DG834G
Ocuk £75
Other £59

Linksys WAG354
Ocuk £66
Other £50

Belkin 125Mbps Wireless
Ocuk £80
Other £71

Netgear DG834N
Ocuk £132
Other £123

A bit off topic but is there a wireless g or pre n and gigabit adsl router available anywhere, ocuk stock the cable version, but not an adsl version?

The only router that i would buy is OcUK Value wifi router ie safecom ( the range isnt great but its very reliable and has lots of features, not only that but the support is very good, then Zyxel Prestige routers they are the best routers ive come across, dlink linksys are crap, thats my personal.

Routers: It is becoming more and more popular as an ADSL hardware, I suppose that area could be expanded. What I do find is the lack of SpeedTouch routers (they are very good when it comes to performance) and Draytek routers (expensive but reliable and good performance). SpeedTouch routers are also cheaper than many routers on the market today although their build quality and reliability edges towards the more expensive market.

Most of the range and prices in the Networking range is great, there are probably a couple of items that are more expensive than competitors by one or two quid but that won't break the bank... will probably save those few quid from buying other items that are cheaper than competitors :)

Can actually get that for £80 + a free Netgear RangeMax WPN111 Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter worth about £40 with it with free P&P.

So in this case the pricing is more than slightly out of touch.

The pricing need to if anything match online prices, as if anything, other places charges less for P&P. So if you are more to begin with, and then add P&P, the total price is like £20/£30 more than some other places, which unless you are a die hard OCUK customer, the wallet will go to the cheaper places.

Max isn't ADSL2+.

Well yeah that's correct, my point being that majority of lines are getting faster and people are getting fast speed lines such as ADSL2, the extra ability to handle it should be clearly written in the OcUK item descriptions

/me *goes off to edit post* - I had too many thoughts running at once :)

Thanks for the correction tolien.
