OcUK now selling e2180! Well when stock arrives.

Got E2160 running at 3Ghz. Am I happy I bought this cpu :D runs great in games aswell! Might try 3,4 or something later...

Edit: Got it running at 3.2Ghz 1.50v seems Orthos stable but temps are like between 60 - 67 orthos load. Am on startd boxed Intel Cooler. If anyone can recommend me a good cooler which isn't to expensive (and should be available in my country, the netherlands) then I might get that to lower the temps a bit.

Will this do for you :)

Good clock what setup was this running on I am thinking of getting a E2180 and would like to know the best motherboard/memory combo for it ??

these chips are great for 3ghz at stock volts but require a decent jump for anymore from my experience and from the looks of quite a few others.

those 4ghz shots are under single stage, don't get too excited if you don't have that equipment :)

Got mine running at 3GHz, not sure the best way to do it, just upped the fsb to 1200 and saved the bios. Considering I couldn't get 200mhz out of my 754 3700, a 50% overclock is incredible. Plays WiC very nicely on my 2900pro flashed to an XT. Not a bad setup all round. Have yet to download 3D Mark or try Bioshock and I guess I ought to stress test it once I replace the stock HSF with my zalman 7000cu, Orthos is the thing to use, right?

i am thinking of getting e2180 but i never overclocked a cpu before ( only graphics cards) how hard is it ?

also would stock fan that comes with the cpu be ok if i get to like 3GHZ or do you guys get a better cpu cooler if so witch ones are good?

thanks

Really most of what you need to know is in the Oveclocking forum FAQs.

There is an excellent thread on 2140/2160 CPUs in this forum which will give you some specifics regarding this range and the 2180 in particular towards the end.

I think the stock cooler does a pretty good job, if you don't want to spend an extra £30 for an aftermarket cooler. Here is a quick comparison:

My kit below, but with stock cooler, I was geting 2.88 Ghz, at about 70C load. With the Tuniq, I am getting 3 Ghz at 60C load. I could go higher if I set the vCore to 1.5 (3.2Ghz), but I don't fancy it.

Got my E2180 stable at 3.33GHz with 1.475v and load core temps of 64c:

The overclock scaled reasonably well as voltage was increased and it's a relatively cool running CPU so I'm very happy with it. :)

What cooler would be good for this cpu to lower my temps a bit, got 67c under load at 3.2ghz 1.50vcore. max 20/30 pounds.

cpu-z says 1.45vcode(1.44 under load) while I set it to 1.50, I remember on my old Asus board it always put 0.5v on top of what I set in the bios but this gigabyte board removes 0.5v?

got mine running at 3ghz 300x10 @1.3625v
will try and push it further when i have the time. I could not get it any higher than 370 fsb right enough so i presume i have hit the fsb wall of the cpu. That was on a GA-P35 DS3P and some Crucial Ballistix 6400 ram.

Have you got the PCI-E at 100 MHz in the BIOS or is it set to auto?

Is this the highest OC with this chip on air ?

It's the highest I've gone although I also tried 3.6GHz but I couldn't get it stable. Not many have the E2180 as yet so it's probably the highest on air on here that I've seen anyway.

Yeah. Have it set at 100. anything higher than 370 it tries to post but just goes through the cycle of about 4 resets before it boots to the defaults.

Try setting it to auto and see if it'll post. I found on my P31-DS3L anything past 359 FSB with PCI-E at 100 it wouldn't boot with the overclocked settings (failed overclock so some BIOS settings reverted to defaults) but on auto it goes a lot higher.

I used clockgen to find out what the board was doing to the PCI-E with it set to auto:

So in summary having the PCI-E set to auto in the BIOS results in the PCI-E clock being set close to 100 starting from 200 FSB all the way up to 359 FSB and then from 360 FSB onwards the PCI-E clock starts at 96.04 and it increases gradually until 399 FSB where it cycles down to 95.45 and then it starts all over again.

Might not be the same on your P35 board but would be worth finding out.
