OcUK Photo Comp - THE FUTURE (pt2)

Well, I'm in.

Trying to get a lot more out of photography as a hobby these days, so anything getting me out and challenging me is good.

I would say, some of the competition themes I saw in the past were problematic in that they were to abstract, rather than not being generic enough.

And there were some themes that simply wouldn't interest everyone. Anything that meant I would have to photograph people for example, would give me pause - there's a whole thread i created on being a self-conscious photographer :)

But if this goes ahead, I will give it my best :)
 
I used to really enjoy the monthly comp, but haven't picked up my camera in a long while.

I'd certainly be interested in taking part again if it was to restart. I need a bit of motivation to get out with my camera again.
 
Well I think we have a decent amount of people who would be willing to enter, so the ground rules etc need looking at I think. Judges being picked etc.
 
I completely missed all the old competitions but would probably enter any new ones. Would prefer judges picking a theme otherwise people will just pick a good photo and then retroactively 'decide' a theme.

Would it be too restrictive if each user that wanted to participate posted the theme they were working towards by a certain date BEFORE heading out to take a photo?

So kind of having 2 deadlines, one for theme submission, one for photo submission. Only downside is that it would be difficult for anyone to join midway through if they missed the first submission deadline....at least on this first round.
 
Well now i have a camera id certainly like to see this start again.. I always admired the photos posted by genuinely talented users, ill be keeping an eye on this to recommence in the future.
 
Is it just me or has this section of the forum seen a big jump in new posters over the last few weeks?

An ideal time to get this comp back up and running?

Who judges it though? Otherwise I couldn't agree more. Hell, I wouldn't mind if every month there was just a sticky thread with "this months theme is x, post pics here" and then you just posted your shots in it with feedback and critique from peers (eg you critique the shot above yours to the best of your ability). All that needs is a mod to sticky the thread (if that).
 
Nobody has to judge it. Everyone can judge it.
It doesn't need to be sticky, if there is demand it will naturally bump up anyway.

This month's theme is Cutty Sark. GO.

Ah, that makes sense! I agree with your point though. If no one else wants to, I'm happy to pick a theme and make the thread. It would be nice to have a goal for my photography, and I really valued the feedback I got from the comps, so if there was a critique system that made sure everyone got their bit of feedback then I would be up for it. Obviously it depends on whether everyone else is up for it too.
 
I'd love to see the comp back, it gives inspiration, i'm back in the game now and when i got my 60D a few months ago, i was gutted to see the comp was no more, so i'd like to see it back :)

Maybe a vote would be good?
