OcUK Poker Thread.

I do feel sympathy to your situation there. Last week during just one day alone, I was dealt killer hands, in this case AA, on no less than four times in one tournament. Only once did I profit by calling / raising etc. This happened several more times with KK, tbh I've never had so many great hands that have yielded so little. Don't even get me started on AK.

I think in your case, because it was such an early stage in the game, I can understand why you folded. Maybe it was also that you didn't get long enough to see a pattern in anyones decision making, and as you know, generally speaking when someone raises by a lot it usually, not always, but usually is quite a reliable warning. I know it's part of the game, but I'm not a huge pre-flop 'all in' player, it comes down to too much luck and effectively reduces the skill element in the game. I appreciate that sometimes we have to do it, but I do like to pick my moment, e.g. when I feel comfortable and am getting good cards. Sometimes I find it easier to get route to the flop by just making a small call or just checking, otherwise all hell breaks loose before I've even seen the flop. Then once I have seen the cards on the table I have more options available.

People seem to go 'ape' during the first few minutes of tournaments to actively stash away a saving before the heavy blinds kick in later. Quite often though I am just amazed by what people have deemed worthy to enter a do or die hand with, such as the other day when someone that was under no pressure decided to go all in with J6.

Depends on the situation, i am very reluctant to risk all of my chips early on in a tournament pre-flop and would very rarely call against more than one player, but it pays to be much more aggressive later on in the tourney. The thing about that situation is that everyone has 4000 but blinds are only 20-40 so you have to bet way over the odds if you are going to play it slowly.

Every tournament gets to a stage where all-in is by far the best move though, i am certainly not adverse to pre-flop all-ins in certain situations.

I am learning to play much more aggressively now as well and tend to make many more moves than i used to

EDIT- just doubled up:D

130 players left now and i am 6th in chips with 32000. Hopefully i am in for the long haul.

It is a 6k guaranteed, £10 10seater with 60 places being payed, started with just over 600 players. I have done the hard work and just need to keep my head now. I have used one rebuy

Also still in another tournament where i have just over average chips, still 250 left in that though.

EDIT- Euros not pounds.

Just had one of the worst bad beats i've ever had, i actually want to kill the guy who called my preflop bet with A3, called on the turn and hit an A on the river to beat my kings:mad:

I play on PKR and I have to say I had one of the worst bad beats ever :(

3 handed going into the flop I was dealt 89 hearts and I was big blind too. Flop came out 4 spades, 10 hearts, jack hearts. I have an open end straight flush draw and I raise 3 BB's. I get called and one other drops out so we're two handed. The turn card is queen of hearts and I have hit my straight flush!!! I play it cool and min raise and the other guy puts me all in for 7k chips. I pause to savour the feeling and then call thinking I've doubled up well.....He shows King Ace herats...he has the royal flush beating my straight flush.

The others at the table go ballistic in the messaging section laughing and plenty of WTF's and OMG's

Cashed out with £3 winnings in 7th spot but such a bad beat.....doubt that'll ever happen to me again.

Happy with my performance actually, i bossed the final table when i needed to, stayed out of the action when required. We started heads-up with almost exactly the same amount of chips strangely!
Usually i am not aggressive enough for HU play and usually let myself get bullied but i spiced it up a bit and really went for it and was never in any danger, in fact i don't think i was at risk at any point in the tournament!

I am going to try to play more aggressively in future

Heads up, I raise he's ever bb. Kamakazee like.... maybe not always, but thats the idea.

I actually hate the fact I can't afford the higher stake tables. The number of times I have been beaten on the river by crap cards on the lower stake tables is beginning to really cheese me off, it's frustrating! Would never happen if it cost them $50 to see my hand

Again,

I have suited AK and Im BB.
Player calls
I Reraise 4 x BB
player calls

I hit nothing,
PLayer has Q8 unsuited and hits 88Q on the flop LOL! I just don't get it
