OcUK Poker Thread.

If you have $47 in your account you should NOT be playing $1/$2 cash.

Try playing $0.02/$0.05 cash games or $3 sit n goes and try and build up your bankroll as you learn.

Good luck :)

totally agree with this. smaller stakes and get a good foundation. Going in at $1/$2 games is just crazy with $47.

If you have $47 in your account you should NOT be playing $1/$2 cash. The general rule of thumb for cash games is that you should have between 20 and 30 buy ins for the stakes you are playing. I.e. the normal buy in for $1/$2 is $200. You should have approximately $4,000 to $6,000 in your account to justify playing this level. This is why you play 'different' at the higher stakes.... because your playing with everything in your account and its therefore 'scared' money. Based on the hand scenarios you have given and the questions you have asked you should be playing as small stakes as possible till you grasp the game a bit more, otherwise you will most likely lose a lot of money.

Thanks for the advice!

So how about we set up some form of tournament?

You're welcome. Just keep in mind Poker is a game that's easy to learn the basics but hard to master, and you've only been playing a few months which isn't long at all. I've been playing for about 10 years and still make stupid mistakes.... :o

OCUK already has a free weekly tournament on PokerStars. I'm not sure if they are currently mid season but I'm sure someone will fill you in.

I've getting back playing recently again a good little run with playing on Pokerstars and playing the Fifty50 games. Playing the $3.30 + $0.20 games

10 players and tournament ends when half of the players have been eliminated. Prize pool is distributed to each surviving playing as $3.30 plus $0.11 for each 100 chips you have when tournament ends.

I've played 20 in the last 2 days, finished in top 5 15 times (so only lost 5 buy ins) and gained $67 in additonal chips. Gone from $20 to $89.

Not big bucks I appreciate that but a decent start. Will keep plugging away.

Playing small cash games at the moment (right now). 0.10 / 0.25. Started off with $15 now up to over $70. Plan to play for a few more hours as PokerStars are dishing out special prizes to celebrate the 95th Billion Hand!

The Fifty50 games are a good way to build bankroll and reward tight, conservative play. Do be aware you are not playing to win, and only to come 5th or better. As a result it throws up very odd situations where you may fold JJ+ pf if people are being blinded out or you have an ai + call before you
