Does anyone know if they come with onboard wireless networking or if an aftermarket card would need to be bought and installed? or a usb receiver, for example..

Also, would they be able to take the standard networking cable with rj45 connectors?

Another question, for those of you who use a BT HomeHub 2 (the sorta curved rectangle one, has the hub phone in the middle) would a wireless b/g networking card be able to receive the network broadcast from that? (WPA2-PSK encrypted)

Mainly curious as i recently ordered the Arkham Destructor system (huge thanks to those who helped me with the 600£ budget post i made earlier, but i found 130£ in my jeans pocket and went with the Destructor to save myself the potential mishaps of building my first pc), and being a pillock i didnt check to make sure i had a long enough bit of cable to run from the router to my room..

Did order a 20m bit of rj45ed cable to eventually get it on wired, but i cant go without net for a few days :(

Usually you would have to buy an aftermarket card.

Who uses a rj45 connector anymore, it is all ethernet cables these days??? Are you running dialup for something?

To get the best out of the homehub, I would recommend using G/N (Mainly N) as it is faster than G and B is rarely used anymore. N allows upto 300mbps.

As standard all pcs have ethernet but you can get wireless adaptors from ocuk for quite cheap that will do the job.

RJ 45 is an ethernet connection.

RJ 11 is for the telephone i believe.

You will not get any benefit from a wireless N type card unless your router uses N.

I've always used wireless dongles. You may get better signal with the larger antenna and greater power of a card, but I've always used a dongle and it's fine.

USB Dongles tend to be slower than PCI Wireless Cards.

You will always get better signal and faster network access using a PCI card! USB dongles are not great for gaming in my opinion. They are ok but if you are a serious gamer who uses wireless, always get a PCI card.

Any serious gamer would use wires ;)

That's what I was thinking

You will get better signal and a higher throughput CinderzFTW, but if the link isn't saturating anyway then why do you need it? Transferring files between machines is the only thing I can think of.
