OcUK Proud to announce our best DDR2 Kit yet - OCZ DDR2 PC2-9200 Flex II 4GB Series!!

Any updated thoughts, taking account of the weekend special price of one hundred squids?
Would any of you buy this over the 2x2GB Corsair Dominator pc-8500?

Yes its possible to get 1200MHz 4-4-4- on D9GMH chips... but the voltage needed to get there WILL kill the kit inside 6 months. I've had my old g.skills 6400HZ kit running stable at 1333MHz on a Gigabyte P35 DS3R at 5-5-5-15 with enough voltage... I killed them after 18months running 1272MHz 5-5-5-15 with 2.2 (2.25-2.28 actual) volts.

Yes this is all TOTALLY pointless (atleast on most dual cores at <4gig) - 3D Marks 06 scores are up maybe 5% between running 533MHz RAM and 1200MHz, most games don't even go up by 1% and while a few things like file unzipping will be marginally faster in terms of numbers you don't actually notice the difference - the only thing that changes are synthetic memory benchmark results - and I can beat most of those with a set of reapers running at 900MHz on tight timings.

The only good thing about this RAM is that it _should_ run those high frequencies at a sensible voltage that _should_ result in decent long term lifespan... much of the overclocking high end memory is running D9s at high voltages and doesn't last too long.

Nice ram.....but Im wondering why one stick has 4 water cooling holes and the other only has 2?

The 2Gb kit has 1 large inlet and one large outlet pipe, and coolant flows through one side of the module.

The 4GB kit (2x2) has 2 smaller inlet pipes and two outlet pipes - one for each side of the module, which is why you can't install 8GB due to the modules being too wide (on the 4GB kit).

Hope that helps.

Ooops, i think i just C%#ED

Thats some nice looking ram, and the spec and power is just a bonus !

That'de be nice to take down the local PC store and ask if they'll check if your ram is ok, even if theres cleary nothing wrong! :D

Ive got one of my old amiga magazines somewhere. £150-£200ish region to upgrade from 512Kb to 1Mb ram!

Yup, remember getting a third party 512Kb upgrade for my Amiga that was *only* £85 from a computer show!

I heard that Anniversary stuff was pretty damn kickass too, pity you can't get it anymore :(

I'd love some

They were very, very special indeed. They were sold as overclocking specials. At a hyped up premium price. Until they went dead, and then they were just ordinary PC5300 Ballistix, which is the official line. So if you want some, just get some PC5300 Ballistix. Exact same stuff apparently. Certainly that's what you get if you RMA them.

If I remember rightly I paid £38 for my 16k Ram Pack upgrade for my ZX81 in 1981.

I bought it so I could upgrade from the 1.5k the ZX81 came with so that I could play Psion Flight Simulator.

Taff

First 2 kits i had were DOA, The ram stuggles to run at its rated speeds and timings. So dont even thing about overclocking this ram lol

This kit and this will run faster and tighter than Flex II
