At the moment its just an idea, feedback here is important as i mentioned it in another post and got very little in the way of positive feedback, if feedback at all.

Basically the situation is that i help a GSP, looking to promote their name in order to increase sales and i approached them with this idea, to create a public server for the OcUK community in order to generate a bit of interest and let people know the GSP exists!

So what I need from you is basically, do you think this is a good idea? Can you see this being popular? Would YOU play on it? Wouldn't mind some feedback on server size, tickrate, map cycle etc too. I would be against mods such as GunGame as i think they're turd but we'll see what you guys think.

In my head at the moment I was thinking 20-24 slot server, 66 tickrate (Dont want to be a resource hog), could maybe get a TS2 server up for ppl messing around. In return to keep the priviledge for free we'd have to keep it pretty busy. Was thinking of having like a 'launch night' in order to make sure we at least have some fun for a night before it empties.

So anyway let me know what your thoughts are and maybe i can get the wheels in motion. The GSP is www.clanteam.info or #clanteam on IRC, do pretty good webspace as well if your interested and cheap BNCs.

I think its a good idea, I've been looking for a server to call home ^^Count me in11!!
Map cycle...
Office
Dust 2
Aztec
Maybe throw a couple custom maps in there for a votemap when ppl are bored.
24 should be more than enough at first, Depends how popular it becomes.
100tick rate would have been nice but 66 will do i guess.
1 Thing i Would suggest is pick Admins wisely, Nothing worse than joining a server with Admin(s) abusing there powers =/

I remember when we used to have css nights, and we used to go on tocuk's server, they were quite popular at the time, theres a fair few css players on these forums of different skill levels :)

office 24/7 32 man 100 tick = win

Edit: 66 tick :( noes get at least 75! hate reg on 66 tick publics

You're not allowed to use the OcUK name (at least not so blatantly) and I think there might be some issue over business pimping.

As is the case with any server that's been offered for our uses in the past, it's not used regularly enough to warrant it being there 24/7.

Dust 2
Aztec

Sorry im not dissing you personally :P but its so hard to find decent servers that play something other than those three maps. Bring back Oilrig and Vertigo tbh. Office is about the only standard map i enjoy anymore. CSS ruined assault.

Also, i would totally be in. Wouldnt mind contributing a bit to any hidden costs (although free is preferable!)

As someone that tries to organise mod nights for the OcUK steam community, a server like this that we could have at least 1 person with admin access on would be extremely helpful.

I rarely play on anything but 100 tick servers and i know a lot of others that do the same. If the company wants to advertise their servers then it is ESSENTIAL to have a 100 tick server as the showpiece imo. If i'm looking for a ramdom game then it is always on a 100 tick server. The larger 100tick servers are almost always busy.

As for the name, it's not essential to say OcUK but maybe do something clever with the name for the reasons zombie mentioned.

Map cycle:
The current fav's + old classics. It needs to be something more than the usual Dust2/Aztec rubbish. No horrible maps though. I suggest digging up the thread of favourite classic CS maps for some ideas. Or we can just get a discussion in the chat room going a few minutes before the next community night. Stuff like the aim/surf/knife maps are good inclusion on the server but not in the cycle.
Also needs to have a map vote plugin imo for when there are no admins around.

Other mods:
I remember some servers used to offer hot swappable mods. You could run a script that would restart the server with a different mod. That would be awesome if possible (trying to do Ins and DoD and other nights in the future), but if not it is no great loss. No GG or anything like that by default (as much as i enjoy it), though the option is always welcome.

I hope that helps. If you want to know anything else, drop me a mail (in trust).

how did css ruin assault? you need fy maps and lots of them..... not played on a decent fy map server for ages.

24 is fine, even 18 would be ok - 40 man is way too much. Have nice long map times (but not so long round times). Maps? I'd say quite a majority of players prefer a more serious cycle as opposed to the same old office 24/7 etc. In no particular order...

Dust2
Nuke
Train
Mill
Contra
Inferno

would be the main ones to go for imho...

de_ > cs_, with compound being the only slightly interesting cs_ map (imho ofc, but the others are played to death...)

good luck :)

Sounds like a great idea and I would put in a few hours.

How about having - Office, Inferno, Nuke, Militia & Dust on rotation with a few custom maps that can be voted in as previously said.

I'd like to see CS:S Deathmatch MOD given a run as it's generally a good laugh.

I just personally felt it made it over-complicated. I loved the way it was so imbalanced. The wide open spaces have been replaced by extra scenery and hiding places. Just not a fan tbh.

A few things that would help build a popular server are:

20 round map length
2 minute round times
A small rotation with admin option for votes
Maps consisting of something similar to dust2, dust, cbble, aztec, prodigy

These may well be 'boring' map choices, but they are what the majority of pulic css players will play, and that is what fills a server. The rotation should go something like:

dust2
dust
aztec
dust2
prodigy
dust2
cbble

Rinse and repeat.
