For the forum? I don't think it would be any good. You can already set to be notified by email anyway.

For the shop would be a better idea. For special offers or something.

Anyone interested enough in reading an RSS for new products / offers would most likely be perusing the site regularly anyway, imo.

Too many new posts to track via RSS, especially at peak times :D

Just use new posts, or just learn what the icons ect mean like someone said :D

RSS :/ Useless fad imo, you would be better off going straight to the site in question rather than wasting time faffing around with an rss aggregator.

I agree.

They are kinda useful when making a website, so you can pull news items from forums etc, but for the average net user they are useless.

Disagree,

i use a lot of rss feeds, for news headlines, and torrents.

Why not just go to the BBC News site when you want to read the news and go to a torrent search site when you want something to download. Surly that's easier, faster and just generally better than messing with RSS feeds?

Serious question by the way, I really want to know what people use them for and why!

omg, is it that difficult, one shows me which latest movie torrents are released, the other shows me latest news headlines, which if i see a newsheadline i wanna read i click it, and it takes me straight to the article.

Whats an rss feed?
Wikipedia said:
RSS (which, in its latest format, stands for "Really Simple Syndication") is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, news headlines or podcasts. An RSS document, which is called a "feed", "web feed", or "channel", contains either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full text. RSS makes it possible for people to keep up with their favorite web sites in an automated manner that's easier than checking them manually.
More here :)

Think its a great internet invention/tool. Use it a lot especially on my new mobile phone  That said, think it wouldn't be such a great idea for OcUK forums considering the number of posts. Unless there's a way to summarize, etc.

But you still have to go into your bookmarks or use a RSS reader. Either that or you can integrate it into a custom home page or something. But, like I said, why not just go to the site yourself and look? I can't see how RSS makes things any easier. It's not like going to BBC News for example actually takes that much time. I scan it at least 10 times a day, usually takes 30 seconds to browse all areas and see if there is anything worth reading.

In fact some might say that RSS feeds are not as good as you might miss other items, eg you get the headlines but a smaller article is really interesting but you miss it because you didn't actually go look at the site. Also what if you're afk for several hours, you could miss several stories which by the time you get back will be off the feed!

Maybe I'm just old fashioned :p
