OcUK RTX3050 review thread

Steve Walton. Hardware Unboxed

We believe the RTX 3050 will actually cost $450 US, but even there its better value than the 6500XT.

Between $370 and $450 for the 3050 its going to be rough for the 6500XT

Its not going to be rough for you ^^^^ its going to be rough for the competing GPU he just gave a very biased review a few days ago.

This guy is a ####### clown, he is actually running defence for scalped pricing, that's why he gave the 6500XT such a bad review, so he could justify the 3050 at $450.

Do you guys still think he's on your side, that he isn't just manipulating you, who the ##### justifies a scalped price and why?

I think the point he makes is even at $450 the cost per frame is still better than a 6500XT when running on pcie gen 3.0 not to mention it has extra features like DLSS and encoding / decoding support.

I personally think they should remove 6500xt from benchmark comparisons, it's not fair to contiually show AMD in a bad light..

No, it has its faults, that needs to be said and shown, but he's pretending its no better than a 1050TI, that under no circumstance should you buy it even at $200, buy the 3050 at $450 instead, even if you're looking for a $200 mid to high settings 1080P card get the 3050 at $450, clown.

He's adding to the problem, he knows it, he doesn't care.

Why was it biased? Wasn't it universally panned for being a waste of sand and AMD are just taking the mick with a turd card

People were calling him an AMD shill for his 6800XT review when he **** all over ray-tracing.
I don't particularly like Steve, but calling him biased over this is ridiculous.

He crapped, and rightly so, all over the 6800XT Ray Tracing performance.

You don't think justifying $450 for the 3050 is ridiculous? Is he not just adding to the problem?

What the hell are you talking about?

He didn't crap over the ray-tracing performance of the 6800XT. He glossed over ray-tracing in the 6800XT review because he didn't see it as relevant technology at the time. Therefore painting AMD in a more positive light.
In fact his ambivalence towards ray-tracing prompted NVIDIA to try blacklisting their youtube channel.

No. You need to re-watch it...

Clutching at straws

The point he makes is idiotic. A person who's struggling to buy a budget GPU isn't going to all of a sudden be able to pony up another $200 so he can get a "better deal" (and it's not), and that's the point of the 6500 XT - a new GPU you can actually buy near MSRP and <$300. Same kind of stupid logic he uses when he argues about buying used, as if warranty has no value & every used market is identical throughout the world.

Unfortunately it's hard to develop empathy when in your studio you have $40000+ worth of GPUs that you can play with, so he'll never get to the point where he'll understand the lower ends of the market. That's why every reviewer bar PC World has had these psychopathic takes where poor people don't exist.

The ultimate up-sell?
You don't want to eat bread, why not buy this fancy cake for twice the price.
A pretty pointless comment made by someone who doesn't understand fixed budgets or sticking to them.
If someone was basing all their comments on the MSRP, then yes for an extra $70 the 3050 wouldn't be a bad up-sell. But for twice the price? It may still even offer better FPS/$, but it totally blows up any fixed budget and why stop there? The 6600 is far better than the 3050 and can often be had for this kind of price. Before you know it, will he telling budget buyers to buy a 6900 XT as it's the card selling closest to its MSRP and is hence less of a ripoff?

Based on expected prices there really shouldn't be any comparisons drawn between the 6500xt and rtx 3050. Seems completely irrational to me. The Nvidia card with the closest price to the 6500xt at the moment is the 1050Ti, so that's what the comparison should be.

Agree that over time people without budget limits who get sent too of the range cards for free will probably lose touch with the realities of building a lower end PC for a fixed budget, unless they make a conscious effort to actually think about it - which many of these reviewers have obviously not done.

I'll eat my words if we end up with £250 rtx 3050s for sale in every shop, but the likelihood of that being the case at least in the short term seems to be approximately 0. The msrp is fantasy for the vast majority of buyers, just like it has been for the other graphics cards of this generation.

He is a clown, as an "influencer" < his words to describe himself, he is so fixated on "punishing AMD for the 6500XT" he's actively telling people to buy 4 year old used cards that are slower and more expensive or to buy the 3050 at +70% over MSRP.

Either he hates AMD that much or there is something wrong with him. You decide.

One video said the MSRP card supply in the UK is 4 figures .. that could be 9999 ! :p

OcUK had over 1000 units alone, so its fair to say it is probably over 5000 units.

Its getting some bad stick, quite a shame because in the current climate it is one hell of a good performing card for the money in todays climate, a few people who have got one seem happy, particular in gen4 setups the 1080P performance is fine.
