OCUK RTX4060TI review thread

lets hope the outcry is loud enough so even the less aware listen, this is just madness what they trying to get away with

so whats the deal with 16gb vram when its suffering already at 1440p with its 128bit bus ?

Who knows. It is literally the weirdest card in the range to put 16gb on with that bus width. Seems pointless as it is clearly going to be rubbish at 4k anyway.

It would have been far better if they made the 4070 Ti 16gb alongside the 4080, and then made the 4060,4060 ti and 4070 12gb (or maybe even have the 4070 as 16gb as well).

What a total disappointment. I feared this was going to be a flop when I saw the specs, especially the 128-bit memory bus.

Gamers Nexus summed it up nicely: "even another 8GB of video memory can't save this GPU, its impotence is insurmountable".

At 1440p the 4060 Ti 8GB performs almost exactly the same as the 3060 Ti 8GB. And the 16GB version isn't going to help 'future proof' the card because of how it is strangled by the 128-bit memory bus. Sure there's DLSS support, but this is just an attempt to mask these shortcomings.

It's crazy to me that an 8->5nm node shrink has resulted in some of the worst generational gains across the low-to-mid range in Nvidia's history - 4090 aside, they've completely boned this generation.

Yeah this is basically the consequence of them getting tight fisted about around the memory bus. Like obviously even the RTX 3060 Ti had a 256-bit bus and that would have been perfect for the 4070 and 4070 ti. But now that level is reserved only for £1k+ cards!

Or even the 4070 could have been limited to 192-bit from a hypothetical 256-bit AD104 if necessary, although I still think it's absurdly tight to have an almost £600 card limited that way.

I think its more down to the naming scheme they decided to go with, knocking everything down 1 tier has done this otherwise it would have been okay.

Well, it's important to remember that they originally planned to call the 4070 Ti the "4080 12GB" and price it at $100 more. The plan was for the VRAM to differentiate them at retail, even though the reality was that performance was completely different too. When they backed down from that there was little choice but to call it the 4070 Ti instead. The cards had already been designed and manufactured with x80-class pricing in mind (and if you've seen the average 4070 Ti it has a complete overkill, triple-slot cooler with all the bells and whistles), so bumping it down two price tiers and calling it a 4070 wasn't really an option. The actual 4070s generally have much smaller, cheaper designs.

Yep. They got real greedy.

Everything should be knocked down a tier

4080 - £800
4070Ti - £600
4070 - £400 - 450
4060ti - £250 - 300

Essentially they all need to move to the price slot of the card below them.

Not sure about the 4090 as halo cards are always weird price wise.

That would be a much more palatable line up.

What a time we live in, to have to talk about how rubbish releases are compared how good and amazing it is instead. It's honestly quite sad times for computer enthusiasts around the world.

First thing i looked at was the 1440P results from TPU, slower than a 3070 and 2080Ti.

For $400, its not terrible, or at least it wouldn't be if it wasn't for the fact that this is the 8GB one, the 16GB is $500, the same price as the 3070 AMD ITS SLOWER.

I haven't watched the reviews yet, are they outraged???? They need to be ###### outraged!!!!!

The fact that NV marketed last gen's card in the same class as a 1080p card and now they are asking for more whilst still marketing it as a 1080p card, even though in reality it doens't always even beat the 3060 Ti is just amazing :D

The GN video is the best one I have seen yet, they include the top end cards in their charts and consistently use the 12700KF which is the best middle ground for tracking scaling across resolutions. It's nice seeing such a broad range of GPUs on one chart whereas other outlets just show similar class cards in their review comparisons.

I so agree with this, this line up makes much more sense to me.
