So when is intel gonna respond, its gonna take some to beat that efficiency in gaming

If they run much more power through their cpus to try and compete they're gonna need to bundle cryogenic coolers with them.

ed: this looks the part from a few years back with the 28 core smoke and mirrors bs. How is that already 5 years ago?

dead platform though, I only want for purely gaming with efficiency
The dead platform is always a silly argument, are you planning to upgrade a 400-500€ CPU in the next 2-3 years? Never made sense to me to be honest.

If im buying a 7800x 3d im planning to keep it until am6 3d.

try telling the people who upgraded from 1800x to 5800x3d

its always nice to have that option then not isnt it ???

if increase in performance is good and better efficiency why not, sell what cpu you have and put in for new cpu ?? will be interesting if support goes beyond zen 5

Exactly. Not only that, the flexibility it gives you to do things in parts. I went 2600 -> 3700X on AM4 and x470 then replaced the x470 with x570 then went 5900X all in the space of 4 years. This allowed me keep all other parts and replace as I had funds available. In fact I am still on the same windows install as I really don't want reinstall all of the software I use for work. Inevitably I will have to do that but have not had a single reason yet.

When will this be available for purchase.?
I desperately need to upgrade my 5800X to play TLOU…

I think it makes sense for cpu manufacturers to stick with a socket for longer. If you have to change the motherboard then it brings competitors into the fray. If you can just drop in a cpu then you're locked in unless you're desperate to change as it's so much easier.

Guess will have to try my luck tomorrow then.
5800X is no good with 4090…
If you really want one you're going to need to have all the major retailers pages open and keep refreshing all day until they drop, then you're going to need to have all your details saved in so you can check out as fast as possible, and even if you do get one hope they havent oversold and actually have stock.

So release time is unknown.?
I’m off work tomorrow so might as well sit and try.

Well said.
I started out on am4 with a 1600 and x370. Replaced the 1600 with a 3700x and the x370 with an x470 (I think!) all done in stages so didn’t ‘sting’ the pocket too much in one hit. Currently looking at the 5800x3d now it’s dropped below 300 quid. Phenomenal platform for end users who like to upgrade bit by bit.

If the gains AMD can achieve on AM5 are anything close to what they managed on AM4, you bet people will be upgrading. I've owned every generation of Ryzen, and the only upgrade that didn't impress me much was going from a 1700 to a 2700X. Factoring in selling my old chips, each upgrade didn't really cost me too much either. The 5800X I've been using for the past couple of years was only an extra £90 outlay all told, and it's been well worth it. Moving to AM5 at some point will hurt a lot more, since I'll need a new motherboard and RAM too. That's why platform longevity is such a great thing for me. I could still upgrade even now to the 5800X3D, though I talked myself out of that as I really want AVX-512 for emulation if I'm going to buy something new.

I really wish these launches were better organised, from a customer perspective it’s just a total lottery. Having to make assumptions about the time of release, wondering if the websites will go down, if you are busy with other things and don’t get on until 10 mins later to find all the stock has gone for weeks.

Takes the fun out of it.
