What I need most is single threaded app performance, believe it or not a lot of apps have terrible multi threading support for the CPU bound parts of the workflow. The parts that suit multi threading are generally handled by the GPU.
I'm envious of the efficiency of the new AMD platforms but I have a big ass PSU and a custom loop so I imagine I'll cope.
Buying for future adoption has never worked, MMX, SSE, RTX or direct storage. By the time that they're widely adopted the first platforms with support are out of date.
I think we're going to have to agree to disagree.so it turns out that buying for future upgrades has been worth it for AM4 users - just check out the 5800x3d thread. If you're care about AVX512 or energy efficiency, then you're definitely going to lean towards AMD. Even if you need the best single-threaded performance, investing in AMD is totally worth it. You can use the savings from lower energy bills and upfront costs to upgrade to an even faster CPU in just a few months. Honestly, if you're a gamer, producer, or care about energy efficiency, Intel is not the move - the cost of motherboards alone makes it impractical, and investing in a short-lived socket is just not worth it, even if it gives you a little boost in single-threaded tasks. As soon as the next round of CPUs drops, that little boost is gonna turn into a major disadvantage. But yeah, with the launch of the 3D chips, AMD is back on top in the gaming world, which just goes to show how important it is to invest in slot-in upgrades like we talked about earlier.

7800X3D is still far behind Intel in 0.1% low fps.
This is why I’m still thinking about cancelling my preorder.
If you can please provide some data for this. Most reviewers don't show 0.1% fps
As always it’s game dependant but he does mention in his review that 7800X3D suffers from some loading stutter that’s not there on Intel side.

Yeah that might be why.TBF, that is comparing a 13900k absolutely maxed, out with highest end everything to a middle of the road 7800X3D build.

Something often overlooked is the idle/low load power consumption which is around 28w on the 7800X3D, compared to around 10w on an average monolithic chip. If you game on average 2 hours a day and the rest of the time is spent at idle/low loads, most if not all of that power saving during gaming would get wiped out.So when is intel gonna respond, its gonna take some to beat that efficiency in gaming
