[OcUK Staff Builds] rjkoneill's FT01

cool - good to hear :)

theres loads of room behind the grille
mine is empty at the moment as i have a triple radiator on the back of the case now

i sanded one side of the grille down a little and put lots of masking tape on to protect it

it was a case of taking as much time as possible in order to not mess it up

when you use the mallet to push it in

little tiny taps are key to success - if you see the grille start to bend then tap somewhere else to straighten it up

it does fit but take your time and it will end up looking great

im toying with the idea of taking mine out now and putting the triple rad in the front of the case

a mod i will have to do stealthily as the missus wont appreciate me cutting up my christmas present

here is how the system stands now

heres a little picture of my plans for the future with this case

need to figure out some sort of bracket for the radiator first before removing the 5.25" bay rack

also was thinking of removing the mesh from the front of the case and making the whole front panel [except for the bar with the on switch]

that will come in time
any suggestions welcome

Right then - its been a while since i have made any changes

fancied a few changes but the radiator at the front was a no go - i stripped the system down but there was no way i could get the radiator in and make it look neat

so i have gone for an external radiator idea

my system is on a little table now which is a lot better [dust wise]

also it has meant i have been able to use my radiator stand
originally it is designed for a TJ07 - but as i am mounting it externally - i have had to cut a gap at the back of the case

[its not finished yet so i have not shown any pictures]

also added some noctua fans to the system
- they dont look fantastic but seem to match the colours of the motherboard a bit

nevertheless - they cool they knock 10'c off my idle and load temps and push LOADS more air than my old zalman fans

heres the pics...

look out for a hardware upgrade soon

Looking sweet - I approve of your choice of fans sir! The external rad looks cool - just a damn shame about Noctua's choice of colours.

i know - i think it fits in well with the colour of the board

but they perform well so i can forgive the daft colour scheme that noctua think 'goes well' with the majority of hardware on the market!

the fans are on the blue resistors that come with them - making them very quiet

my cpu idles around 30'c
and goes up to mid 50'c after an hour of gaming

EVGA classified?
i am waiting for a non nf200 version to come in
then i may wade in
the only thing holding me back is the thought of spending £300+ on a board for it to only go 10 BCLK or so above my current Biostar

that could be a bit of a wounder!!!

no - the imminent change is going to be a set of OCZ blade to replace my reaper

although the reaper is great - the blade is just phenomenal - we have a set at work that does 7-7-7-20 -1T @ 1700MHZ
so i think i am going to go for that - should set me up nicely for when the classified becomes a viable option

Looks fantastic, you've got me sorely contemplating a water setup.

I have to stop reading your threads, spent too much as it is! :D

i have to stop DOING my threads - as I spend too much too :D

Have you been able to run the ram higher than 1600mhz on the biostar yet?

no - the divider above doesnt work
but i have a beta bios that Biostar sent me last night that should rectify the issue. going to try that - would you like me to email it to you if i find it successful?

looks brilliant mate, made some very good progress :)

really like the overall look.

thanks :)

right then
got a few days off work,
just having a quick go with this new beta bios and my new ocz blade memory before i go to London for a few days

heres my findings for the BIOS:
the beta bios has allowed me to go to 4.7GHz using a BCLK of 224
so it has raised the max BCLK of the board to 224
it gets into windows - but that is about it

4.66GHZ @ 222BCLK is now 3D benchmarkable using vantage/06/crysis/FC2 etc

the memory divider i WANT [2000MHZ DRAM @ 200 BCLK] still does not work
i have emailed BIOSTAR about it to see if they have a fix - will report back when i get a reply

my findings for the Memory:
although i am unable to get the 2000MHZ divider to work - the memory is working all the way up to 1800MHZ by increasing the BCLK

the memory is running at 1600MHZ on my 4.2GHz profile

oczblade1600.jpg

the timings are insane and beat my reaper kit hands down
BLADE @ 1600MHZ @ 7-7-7-18 1T
REAPER @ 1600MHZ @ 8-8-8-26 2T

the board has memtest86 built into the bios - running that - the memory passes at 6-6-6-16 1T !!!, it also passes prime but fails linpack

the timings remain tight at higher speeds too! - just brilliant imo
looking forward to a bios that works with the divider i want so i can get the best out of this memory

am now running my system with all fans on molex - its a lot louder than it was with the zalman controller - but my temps have dramatically changed [and i use my headset so i cant hear it]

i went off the black and white theme tbh - i want performance over looks at the moment
will go for something aesthetic in my next build

i still darent show you pics of the back of the case where i cut it - you will all laugh and pick on me :(

here are a few shots of the new ram alongside my de-stickered dominator fan

looks pretty stealthy now :)

That RAM comes at quite a nice price doesn't it; by the looks of the timings it's the £103.99 kit. Might have to pick some of these up when I eventually get round to building my i7, assuming you can recommend them of course! ;)

i do - look at post number 185 on this thread - for my findings

its my current hardware

however - i have specced up £400 worth of watercooling for the new case

rough specs are

tj07
Rampage II Extreme
Koolance full cover blocks for the rampage2
2 18w liang pumps
2 Koolance 280 waterblocks
240 thermochill for the cpu
my current 360 thermochill for the gfx

the tj07 got painted yesterday

just got to wait for funds to do the cooling

the sticker removal does not void warranty

dont worry

i just furmarked my cards for 10 minutes and off they came

i now have a rampage2 which i cant fit in the fortress due to the motherboard tray not being wide enough for me to fit my sata cables in

so the TJ07 might have to be rushed out of the garage

a megahelem and true will fit
but im not sure about the ram
normally a megahalem will obstuct the first ram slot

@ VortX

thanks - i am in the process of doing another build at the moment which is far better than this

should be good - i havent seen many silver ones
will work well with the colour scheme

i saw a silver TJ07 on XS with a ud5 in it and it looked great

i expect a nice detailed build log!
