Hi Guys

We are pleased to announce that we are the first European retailer to list the upcoming Razer Tiamat headsets on our site for pre order.

This is another OcUK first and we aim to have first allocation of stock when the headset becomes available.

We also have a headset on the way to us for review soon so I will be able to give a full analysis of the headset when it arrives and we have tested it properly.

Stock is looking good, but as with any new product launch, be quick to pre order if you want to secure your headset.

OcUK has UK EXCLUSIVE on this product for 3 WEEKS on launch.

I presume these both use USB connections to the PC bypassing the sound card? (I had a look on the website, but theres no mention).

the Tiamats use analogue connections and a USB for power

the 7.1 which I have tried today has a very high quality braid used on each of the 7.1 connections. this is easily one of the best headsets I have seen for a very long time.

cannot wait to get my hands on a retail example.

For someone who is not an audio buff, describe the difference between using USB headphones and these, through a good sound card?

Ah thanks, shows I wasn't really paying attention to the title. I have to admit when I saw razor first show these off they looked excellent, these may have to be a little treat next month!

I think you misread.

The problem with passing the audio through the USB is that you don't get any of the fancy enhancements which are intrinsic to the sound card, in addition you could lose fidelity due to the fact that they don't have the same quality DACs (Digital to Analogue Convertors) as you do in a sound card. I'm not a huge audiophile, but thats the reason why I would want 3.5mm jacks on them - plus why have a nice sound card if your going to pass through a USB?

I dont have anything outside of onboard sound at the moment - using Logitech G35's which are USB, but they're a bit old now and falling apart (I've had to glue them several times!!) so I may be looking to treat myself.

Was just geniunely wondering if the difference would be noticeable. Obviously if I was to get something like this, I wouldn't rely on onboard sound, I'd go for a dedicated card with it.

The USB merely powers the headset.

this actively powers the speakers in the unit.

the actual audio is carried over standard audio jacks which operate off a sound card.

there are loads of sound cards that would work well with this.

the 7.1 is a very, very high end headset.

How tightly do they fit on the ears? My next upgrade is a decent soundcard+ headset but I'd need a headset that doesn't put too much pressure on the ears because of an operation I've had on them..

I have sennheiser one atm that leave me aching after a few hours because of the tightness :/

they are very nice in fairness. not tight at all. they look like they would be really heavy but I was shocked at how light they are.

I wouldnt have said that they are as light as the PC350 or Siberia V2 but these headsets are pretty much as light as a surround sound headset is ever going to be.

For anyone who hasn't tried proper surround sound headsets, they really do work well. I had a pair of the original Razer Barracudas, and I remember within half an hour of having them on when playing BF2, a clan mate on TS on the other team opened fire behind me hidden in a bush, and I span round to where it sounded like the bullets were coming from and executed him... "How did you know where I was?" "Heard you, my new headset has surround sound! Like it?" "No, not really..."

I use a home cinema system these days, with 7.1 surround, but BF3's sound engine seems a bit naff and it is much harder to position people and sometimes, say 10 people are firing, sometimes some peoples guns won't make any sound at all, is a step backwards from BF2 and BC2 anyway...

So, on the end of the 7.1 cable, are there 5 separate 3.5mm jacks for the three pairs plus centre and sub? (Or even 4 with the sub paired with centre, maybe?)

Yes, I know it's a stupid question but I never trust assumptions :)
