Hi,
Bought a Rift S for Xmas, played for about a month or so then the it started not tracking the touch controllers properly in 2 handed games (Gorn and Vader Immortal Ep3).

I worked through all the set up again and also updated Windows fully, graphics drivers (via GeForce experience) and Bios on motherboard.

I got it working fine for about 1 week, now I have a black screen again and get different issues as reported by the Oculus software everytime I try and do something
Cant link the left controller
Headset sensors not tracking
DisplayPort connector no green tick

It is now useless I do have a support ticket open with Oculus, but they are asking me to reinstall Oculus software again....and again.

This is either a faulty headset or the graphics card (Asus Dual Evo 2070S bought from here in Oct 19).
Googling there are loads of issues and trying them all (Usb no power down etc).

Anyone with similar experience that can help please?
Currently installing on a different PC to test the headset elsewhere?

Very very frustrating

Installing on a different PC is probably the best way to confirm if it's a headset issue or a PC issue.

It may be that your PC's USB ports are getting overloaded, as the Rift S requires quite a bit of current. If it works on another PC then you may need an add-in USB3 card which can take power from a SATA or molex power cable from your PC's PSU.

Right so it installed on another machine, with no issues. The only difference is the main Oculus program was installed on the C: drive, whereas on the other machine it is fully on D (using the run command to switch drives as per Oculus advice).
Therefore, it is not the headset.
The DisplayPort on the Asus is running a Dell S2719DGF fine (it was previously connected to the HDMI port).

So now I am interested in the power angle, I have a Seasonic Focus Plus+ 650 Watt Gold Modular PSU/Power Supply as the PSU.
I only have a keyboard and mouse plugged into the USB ports round the back. I have 4 free (2 USB3 and 2 USB3.1) - could it be that simple? Why would it take that much power? I have more devices on the other machine? Although it is a 750W Corsair supply.
Could the motherboard just not be providing enough, but then why did it work for a while?
For the sake of a few quid what USb3 powered add on board should I get?

Have you tried moving the Rift to a different USB port?
Another thing to check is that your USB devices aren't set to turn off to save power.

Some motherboards and their USB controllers might not have enough power or bandwidth to reliably support a Rift S. I know that when I got a Rift CV1 (which requires four USB ports) the ports initially could handle it but after a while they got unreliable (possibly due to the load) and I had to get an add-in card which solved all the issues.

Tried all USB3 ports and also done all the power saving checks
Selective Suspend Setting is set to Disabled,
Under Power Management under USB Properties - options to save power are also unticked.
Am ordering a Superspeed 4 port USB3.0 PCI hub with power direct to PSU as you suggested.

So I swapped the graphics cards over and it worked on machine B, with the 2070S from machine A.

it did not work on machine A (the problem one) with the 1060 from machine B. Therefore, it is not the card.

I cannot get the Rift to accept the Inateck USB card in machine A.

next plan is to swap the PSUs over because machine B has a 750w Corsair. Will it make a difference? Answers on a postcard...

CAn you give me the make and model of the motherboard in machine A?

And what Inateck usb card did you get?

EDIT: sorry for not helping sooner, I only noticed your post just now.

Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3 (has a Ryzen 5 1600) with Bios upgraded to f50.
The Inateck is the 4 port KT4001 PCIE (red one) SATA power time motherboard FL1100 EX chip.

Are you using the windows drivers or the manufacturers drivers for the Inateck card? If you are using the manufacturers drivers uninstall them and delete them. They don't work with the Rift. Let windows install it's own drivers.

Have you the power plugged into the card?

Try it in a full length PCIe slot, I think it's the second one that runs at x4.

Manufacturers drivers. Thanks didn’t know will uninstall.

yes the power is plugged into the back of the card using their adaptor and a SATA off the power cable. Have tried in both full length and short (it should be fine in either shouldn’t it).

That's most likely your problem with the Inateck card.

The card should work in either slot, but, just ruling out any bottleneck or slot problems.

My plans are now to (and if it doesn't work in each step)
1. Uninstall the Inateck drivers and select Windows (that shouldn't be too hard should it?)
2. Swap PSUs over.
3. Start uninstalling programs installed since end Jan one by one.
4. Complete reformat for M.2 for windows

Melmac, I so wanted it to work but it hasn't.
So I removed the manufacturer driver, reverted to Windows and then plugged the Rift S in.
It did seem to set up better, in that the USB connected quickly, the DP connection, headset sensor check, then it paired the touch controllers. All quickly when this had previously been an issue.
When it came to follow the instructions on screen with the area set up - nothing on screen.

So I swapped the graphics cards back over.
I got a black screen again but with a quick set up (which hasn't always happened), even though I had a blue light on front and white light inside.
Therefore, with the Inateck card I know it is not power, so I am not going to swap the PSUs over.

The Oculus software does not reset when I go to Settings > Beta > Restart Oculus software.
Therefore, I am thinking some software conflict somewhere. I have uninstalled some software that has been installed mid Feb to mid March but still no joy.
I don't think I have much else to do other than reinstall Windows now.
That is tomorrow's plan.

Rift S is marred with issues. USB port issues, DP issues, 3 dots issues. Mine works perfectly fine and then I turn off the computer and next day it doesn't work, USB "not connected". All it takes is to pull USB and DP, wait a bit, then plug them in and it works. I have done all the trouble shooting there is, USB port power management off etc, tried different ports, updated everything, repaired Oculus installation, switched to beta.

Once it works, it works 100% rock solid, until I power down the computer at the end of the day. Makes me think it happens when the Rift S looses power from USB over night and then it struggles to work out what's what next morning. I just ordered an external powered USB hub to see if that fixes the issue.

Oh btw, OP, just do a quick google about USB and other issues with the Rift S, it's a proper rodeo, so many people are having these issues.

EDIT: I've seen a suggestion to disable XMP and manually set my ram frequency and timings. Just tried that and will give it some time to see if the problem still occurs. I don't quite understand how XMP can affect USB ports, can anyone shine some light on this?

That sucks man, I am sorry. It's a PITA to be running through all this troubleshooting.

I hope the reinstall works. Let us know how you get on.

The only annoying thing now is when I bought the m.2 ssd prices were still quite high and I only bought a 120Gb. Am wondering if buy a new 500Gb version because 120Gb can get tight even with a data drive where most stuff goes.

Also within the Oculus software itself, when I go to Settings > Beta > Restart Oculus software = it doesn't restart the button is ineffective?
Anyone else seen this?
This software has been installed multiple times and I think I must have a software issue somewhere - hence he reinstall.

Oculus following support tickets have offered to replace, but I think I may run into the exact same issues....
