I've just received my OCZ 2gb EB Platinum DDR500 Ram back from RMA, ran memtest and again there are hundreds of errors.

Does anyone know of any reason why I should get 2 duff sets of premium RAM or if there are compatibilty issues with memtest 3.2? Are there any other programs that can verify the results?

I thought OCZ was the best RAM money can buy?

Cheers.

Yep, bog standard 3-3-2-8 running @ 250mhz x 2 = DDR500 (250 HTT) @ 2.6v

Runs 3dmark fine, prime 95 is solid.

Had the dead same problem on the first set.

Shall I get my money back or try once more?

What timings have OCZ labelled on the sticks.
I had 2 sets which OCZ stated as 3.4.3.8 & when i tried running at the advertised 3.3.2.8 i had memtest errors.
(By the way, im still waiting for a refund of the postage cost's for sending out the second set, not the best customer service :( )

Use memtest86+ from www.memtest.org v1.65 - it's much better. You guys seem to be very unlucky as my sticks which were ordered from here a while ago are excellent, and clock very well.

I just got a set of these today...and the sticker on the side stated 3.3.2.8 timings...not what urs says. There must be two types of the same memory?

No, I think there was a mislabelled batch/balls up at the factory.

Your're dead right - the new ones are 3-4-3-8 instead of 3-3-2-8.

Just completed a full run of memtest 3.2 and there was 6766 errors - surely that means they're duff?

How dyu know they are labelled wrong and not just the wrong items?

I don't know for sure that they are labelled incorrectly but there have been a few people who recieved theirs with the wrong stickers on.

There is no new PC4000 Platinum EB, they are all the same 3-3-2-8 250mhz.

The Gold XTC is 3-4-3-8 250mhz.

The Platinum XTC is 3-3-3-8 250mhz.

First off - checked RAM timings using Everest Home Edition and the RAM is 3-3-2-8 @ 250mhz despite the stickers saying 3-4-3-8.

Secondly, just ran memtest 1.65 as suggested and got 64 errors, thats about 6700 less than I got with memtest 3.2.

I believe that the stickers are wrong but I'm not sure whether to RMA it or not based on the errors, I think I'll give it a couple of days and see if I get the BSOD during gaming etc.

Cheers

If it won't make stock timings @ stock voltage memtest v1.65 at least 8 hours error free (ideally permanently error free), then RMA :).

Decision made then.

I only intend to run it completely at stock 3-3-2-8 250mhz at as little voltage as it is happy with and thats it. At 250 HTT my cpu is squeezed from 2.0 to 2.5ghz which is right on the limit. Basically I see no benefit in pushing it for that little 10-20mhz extra on the RAM.

It can go back AGAIN.

Cheers Guys.

I got a set with 3-4-3-8 timings and they are perfectly fine, ran memtest overnight. Spot on no errors, better than G.skill HZ sticks had three sets of them.

is that using the advertised 3-3-2-8 timings or the slower timings printed on the sticker? (3-4-3-8)?

Sorry forgot to mention that, It is with 250HTT 3-3-2-8 1T 2.7 V (STOCK)

But yes on the stick is 3-4-3-8, was worried at first, thought wrong item was sent.

Also 267HTT 3-3-2-5 1T 2.7V Fine aswell

SPD in Everest + CPUz Show 3-3-2-8 250Mhz

After ordering my 2Gb set of OCZ...and looking at different RAM I was in two minds about sending them back and getting the G.Skill HZ 2Gb set instead....saving myself near £70.
Is it worth the saving of 70quid to now go with the HZ instead???? I dont recon I would notice too much difference with the slighly tighter timings.
I would be running a 3800 dual at about 2.5-2.6....1:1 (250-260FSB)...what u think?

If i were you i would keep the OCZ,

TBH i didnt think the G.Skill was any better than my Geil Value Ram (of course using a divider though with the geil) I had the same bandwidth, and lower read/writes with the HZ

The tighter timings do make a difference. I would keep them for the versatility of the timings <225Mhz Cas 2, <250Mhz Cas 2.5, >250 Cas 3.

well...I got the HZ delivered today but will try tonight. Surely if i'm runnning at 250 1:1 the difference between cas 2.5 and cas 3 in the Hz's wont make much difference? thats was my thoughts anyway....£70 difference. Anyhow...also got deliverd an x1900XTX 512 so hoping to save hat 70 on RAM
