ocz 450 ssd drive

ATTO Disk Benchmark

It's the one they use when quoting performance figures.

I dragged a folder from my desktop and the it sated the speed was 295 or something shouldn't it be like 500 odds ?.

Looking at the motherboard in your sig (a version of the Rampage III) you have Intel SATA 2 ports and Marvell SATA 3.

The Intel ports will probably give you a maximum of around 275MB/s, the Marvell possibly more but probably not the maximum speed quoted in the specifications.

Which type of connector are you using and are you running in AHCI mode?

You can run AS SSD Benchmark which will give us a bit more information if you post an image of the result.

You can change the language to English.

I'm looking for the information in the top left hand corner, particularly the two items in green.

right read speed is 230 write speed is 240 is this mobo bad for this drive ? ****!!!!!...

Unfortunately you're never going to get the full benchmark figures due to the limitations of the SATA ports.

The Intel SATA 2 ports only operate up to around half the maximum speed of the drive.

The Marvell ports may give you higher benchmarks than the Intel ports but it's a pretty poor early SATA 3 controller and won't give you the full speed.

Having said that you should still see much better performance than a HDD when starting Windows, opening programs etc.

than k you for the reply mate u have been very helpful the only way im gonna see the full speed of this new ssd is to get a new motherboard thanks again...

You're welcome.

A new motherboard to fit your existing processor probably wouldn't make much difference as it would have a similar setup, Intel SATA 2 with SATA 3 from an add on controller.

It's perhaps best to wait until you're doing a more comprehensive upgrade.

It's not really worth upgrading just to see some faster benchmarks, you should still be seeing a big difference between an SSD and a HDD with what you have now.
