OCZ Agility 3 120gb stability issues?

For me, the Agility 3 120GB I received had firmware 2.06 applied. I had continual freezes and BSOD (0x0000007A or 0x000000F4) on my new build.

I updated the firmware to 2.11 and things have much improved but I still experienced the odd completely random BSOD. I have taken the SSD out and used a mechanical HDD and can't replicate the fault at all.

According to OCZ, who admit the fault affects 3% of units, possible causes I've read range from Intel's RST or the Sandforce firmware through to the BIOS or the Sandybridge chipset itself or a combination of each.

I've not had a single issue with the SSD for around 10 days now but with the issues I've encountered, my confidence in the reliability of SSD's in general isn't that high now.

Thanks for sharing your experience WarpedMind.

I'm about to order the components for my build and I'm in two minds over SSD. I want the performance benefits and understand they make a huge difference (I hate load times, especially in games). However, stability and reliability is a big factor, once my build is set up I want it to be rock solid, and I'm really concerned about all the BSOD stories.

I was looking at buying the OCZ Agility 3 120gb (OCuk have it on special) but it would seem that it is particularly prone to BSOD. Are alternatives like the Crucial M4 or Kingston v100 better or is stability a price I'd have to pay for the performance?

I run a studio/workstation which runs 24-7 ish. sound, stability and performance were the most important thing to me. I went with the crucial m4 no problems yet, running it on sata 2 atm because im awating sata 3 cable and the thing flies.

I went for the Crucial M4 as I was concerned about the Sandforce controller issues, the M4 is as solid as a rock and with the 0009 firmware as fast if not faster than its competitors. Also it's 128gb, which is a bonus.

Great stuff guys, I've heard some similar reports on other threads about the M4. Now there is that new information on the news and special deals threads that concludes the M4 has better performance as well! M4 it is, ordering today!
