OCZ Agility 3 Disappointing Performance

could be bios incompatibility if its an asrock board, ive seen loads of graphic card issues/incompatibilities,dont know if it applies to ssd's also

Nope, got lots of client rigs out there with that board and Agility 3s running and benching fine, cheap board though, rather higher than average failure rate.

What constitutes 'cheap'? And if the failure rate is so high why are you fitting them in client machines? I bought this board because of the excellent reviews it received. There are much cheaper, less capable boards available so that comment doesn't really help my situation

could be the drive itself and the boards fine? only way to know is test with another ssd?

have you actually done a brand new clean install of windows with ahci set in bios first?

The Crucial C300 benchmarks ran perfectly fine so I suspect the drive. We will see how the replacement Samsung 830 does. Should get it tomorrow

Well i got them for like 50.00 each for 27 a long time ago, was a bargain at the time but the failure rate is higher than i'd like in the duration since then, 30% i believe. I'm not 'still' fitting those boards, the problems didn't crop up until a few months after all had been used. They were brand new but had no warranty as it was a liquidation and Asrock don't deal with purchasers directly, your warranty is with the retailer. I previously used the P67 Pro3 which was decent but still a bit shaky for reliability as the years have gone by. Most of my builds are mainly Asus mid and high end boards.

It 'is' a cheap board, most Asrocks are, being Asus's 'budget' arm via Pegatron (should see some of the crud they make for OEM machines!) though sometimes they represent good value for money. Not in this case i find.

Versus OCZ Agility 3...

This proves that it was either a compatibility issue or the SSD was just plain faulty. The Samsung drive worked fine first time around and those speeds look good to me. Also the access times are much better.

Wish I'd have found this thread about 6 weeks ago, I had a bitch of a time getting my 120gb Agility 3 up and running too - although I'm on an Asrock Extreme 3 (AMD 970 chipset) board.

Eventually got it working - was really surprised that there are such things as SATA 3 cables though, I can tell you!

My cable wasn't the issue. It was the same cable I used in the Samsung 830 and it worked perfectly. I did already try other cables anyway. I still have no clue why the drive didn't work properly!
