OCZ Agility 3 - Slow Boot & Explorer Not Responding

Hi

I have just installed an 60gb OCZ Agility 3 into my laptop (SATA 3gbps) as my laptop has a 2nd HDD SATA port I thought i'd try an SSD in IDE0 and put the original HDD into IDE1.

I am not sure if I have done something the SSD doesn't like during format & Windows 7 install but I am not that impressed so far and I think I should be amazed coming from a HDD.

Windows was installed in AHCI mode not IDE. The install went fine if a little slower than I expected it to.

My main issues are at the moment is that the boot is on average about 1 minute from password screen after POST.vI was expecting 30 seconds at the most, after seeing various videos & the other issue is after every boot I am faced with windows explorer stalling, if I click on my computer or try and open a program nothing happens and after a minute or so I get the message "windows explorer is not responding" with the option of wait, restart or close. Restarting windows explorer fixes the problem and then windows seems ok after that.

I have turned off, indexing, defrag services etc. Still not fixed

Any help would be much appreciated.

If you had anything on the SSD previously you should update the firmware and secure erase it before installing windows 7. If it's an Intel based laptop make sure you've installed the Intel Chipset and Rapid Storage Technology drivers (2 downloads from the Intel support site. The RST drivers don't always apply so don't worry if they don't install). I'd make sure you're on the latest BIOS too.

Thanks for the tips, the firmware is update according to the website. Its an AMD laptop.

To be honest I have pulled it out and its now in my main pc. Working much faster and no freezing issues so far.

Read/Write figures in AS SSD still seem lower than I expected to see but I may not realy know what i'm looking at. only slightly better figures than posted above but windows is booting very fast now so pleased with that.

Shame my laptop wasn't happy, didn't really need an SSD in my main PC but hay hoo..

Use ATTO with OCZ SSD's because of the compression.

AS SSD always gives a incorrect result. Don't run benchmark after benchmark. All you achieve is a reduced performance and drive life

Your poor performance in the laptop may of been down to the mobo chipset and of course your running it through a 3Gbps sata connection which would reduce the performance a great deal as well for a 6Gbps compliant device

Lastly..... forget the Youtube videos... you have no real idea how much the boot proceess, startup and services have been tweaked for those vids which are posted for the sole purpose of stroking the posters epreen.... and thats all

Thanks, I am very new to SSD, seems there are lots of little things to learn.

Like I said I have moved it to my main game pc now initially to test on another system. Its much much faster now, wishing i'd bought a bigger drive but nevermind.

Its now on my Asus P8P67 Pro, I think it has 2 SATA 6 controllers Marvel & Intel. I didn't realise at first and I think its in the marvell one. Am I right in saying the intel one would be a better choice? And is it ok to switch after windows is installed?
