Why is it the newly listed 'mainsteam' OCZ Apex SSD's are faster at reading than the 'performance' Vertex drives?

I see the Apex doesn't have any onboard cache which I guess explains why it's a little cheaper?

Yeah it is just the cheaper alternative, it will be a major improvement over the v1 and v2, so i've been told.

On OCZ forum you can read that Apex is based on Core v2 series, only in raid. That is why the prices should be lower than they are now - 195 for 60GB is insane! Two Solid 30GB in RAID would be cheaper - about 130 pounds...

So same controller, same stuttering problems.

Madness. I guess I'll wait for those Vertex drives to come down a little then. I really fancy a 120Gb one as a system drive but can't afford them just yet.

Give it a while until speeds shoot up and SATA 6.0gbps standards are released, then these drives will really have a good value.

Based on how quickly I/O speeds have increased on SSDs in the past 6 months, and how long it takes to get a new standard approved and applied, we'll be needing sata 12gbps by the time sata 6gbps comes out..
