OCZ have filed for bankrupcy.

Well I'm glad I had an email saying my new/refurbished SSD had been dispatched this morning after I RMA'd it! Just hope it's not DOA or plagued with the same issues I've had for the last year.

Don't like to see people lose their jobs, but their bad rep. was for a reason.

A shame to see any company go under, if only because this equals "job losses". Been there done that (twice in fact). Not nice... take my word for it! Especially if you have a family , mortgage etc.

They've had their problems I know (especially with some of their SSD's) and that many people have had problems / issues (especially Vertex 3's). But not totally convinced that their "bad boy" reputation is totally deserved (the Internet can be a harsh place). Only my personal opinion folks, not looking for a flame war here :)

Only anecdotal evidence I know and last time I said something like this on the Hexus forums, I got ripped to pieces. But I've got 2 Vertex 4's, one Vertex 2 and one of the original Vertex drives (in a very old laptop) and all have (and still are) performing fine. zeroes issues. Not denying there have been issues, just that I've been lucky not to have any. And all my kit gets hammered.

RIP OCZ :(

Yeah I've had some good stuff off them - my OCZ Fatal1ty PSU is a high spec unit from Impervio, DDR2 Blade RAM is some decently high end stuff, etc. and all has worked fine and taken a ton of abuse. Did have some isolated incidents of heatspreaders slipping on the reaper RAM and one stick that was faulty (out of a dozen or so) but the RAM itself worked fine aside from that one stick.

Some good news:

OCZ in Agreement With Toshiba to Acquire Solid State Drive Business

Good news for OCZ, as they will soon fall under Toshiba. That will secure good NAND supplies in the future and it would make the company able to finally compete with names like Samsung. OCZ Technology Group, Inc., a leading provider of high-performance solid state drives (SSDs) for computing devices and systems, today announced that the Company has signed an asset purchase agreement with Toshiba Corporation, a global technology leader and manufacturer of NAND flash memory, to acquire substantially all of OCZ's assets in a chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding for $35M.

Under this agreement Toshiba will acquire OCZ's client and enterprise solid state drive business. OCZ will continue to operate and serve existing and future customers during this process. Toshiba has agreed to provide the Company with DIP (Debtor-in-Possession) financing to ensure that there is adequate capital and flash supply to support the business during the contemplated sale period. The consummation of the asset purchase agreement is subject to an auction and approval by the bankruptcy court in the Company's bankruptcy case.

This acquisition will provide Toshiba with access to OCZ's proprietary controllers, firmware and software, as well as the teams responsible for bringing these solutions to market, in addition to OCZ's established brand and sales channels. This strategic opportunity will bring critical controller IP and NAND supply all under one global organization, allowing for an even more robust and competitive solid state solution offering for all of OCZ's and Toshiba's mutual customers moving forward.
