OCZ Ram Error On Memtest86

Hey OcUK, I need some help.

After finding my PC BSOD'ing or Modern Warfare 2 crashing after a while of gameplay I thought I'd try to find the cause of it all. I memtested one stick of my OCZ Gold 4GB (2x2GB) and it passed 3 times out of 3 runs. Now the second stick, it passed once, then got an error twice after. I am wondering if this is the cause of my BSODs. As the stick getting the error's is in the second slot I'm wondering if the RAM usage fills stick one, and as it tries to access the top end of the second it kills itself because of it.

Also I have just recently set the voltages of it to 2.1V like the RAM says it should be, it was 1.9V which could have been the cause of the crashes. I will check to see if it works crash free soon.

Is there a reason why when trying to run memtest with both sticks in it just restarts my PC 45% into test 1?

Thanks,

Matt

Probably because one of your sticks is fubared! :D

Test both sticks separately in both slots, manually configure the vDimm and the main timings just in case, also in rare circumstances it's possible the stick isn't fitted correctly in the memory slot or there is some clumping dust debris in there, either way remove the stick and give the memory slot a blow out and inspect the golden-fingers on the memory PCB for any damages, gunk, etc

If the same stick fails in different slots and the other stick passes fine, both with manual voltage/timings then it sounds like RMA time . . .

I have just tested the stick that seemed to be failing in each of my RAM slots (I have 4) and it would either fail each time, or pass once, then fail. I have set manual voltage to 2.10V and the timings are manual to 5-6-6-18, both being manufactures standards.

I will be testing the other stick in the other 3 slots (In one slot it passed 3 times out of the 3 times testing)

If I do find that one stick is broken an will not stop failing will I have to send both sticks back to get two new back, or would it be possible to send just one back and get back one (As they sell just 2GB and 2x2GB), I would like to know as I will have no pc :/

Thanks for your help.

If one stick is borked you have to RMA the complete set, always been like that! . . . most full time PC geeks have a draw with bits n bobs in like spare ram and graphics cards etc

What your trying to figure out before the RMA is if the problem is with the sticks, the board or something else. It doesn't look good but keep an open mind until your testing is complete . . .

What hardware you running btw and is your system overclocked?

P.S: Sorry to be a nag but can you delete the Full-Quote you made of my post please, it's rarely needed and just makes threads harder to read, trim it or delete many thanks!

Okay that's all okay. My dad wants some new RAM for his PC so I'll order, receive, chuck it in my PC until mine comes back.

I have just tried my stick that seems to be fine in slots 1 and 2, no errors after running 3 times, I will run it on the other two slots soon but for now I want to use my PC.

I am running -

Q6600 2.4GHz
Powercolour ATi Raedon HD4870
OCZ Gold DDR2 PC2-8500 4GB (2x2GB)
Asus P5K Premium WiFi

All at normal clock (Being 15 and no job, I don't dare overclock, just in case....)

I have just found something, when on Memtest86 it says my memory type is DDR3, when it is DDR2. My mobo supports DDR2 so that is fine, is there any reason is it doing this?

Okay I finally have made it so I can get Memtest86+ to work, I will do some tests later, for now I want to go on my pc.
