OCZ - RMA got lower memory back DDR1

as per title

rma'd some OCZ PC4000 2x 1GB sticks recently

just got the replacements which are PC3200

worth a moan to OCZ as the new ram is of lower spec than the older set?

They won't have PC4000 left most likely...

Most likely outcome is they will offer you either PC3200 or a partial refund based on the useage you had out of the previous sticks - which will be a fairly small amount now.

Even if they don't surely they have no right to replace it with a lower peforming model. In a warranty which they signed the contract to, and then their product breaks within that warranty, surely they don't have the right to give you a 'worse' product when it's their fault that it broke anyway That's discussting service imo, they should either give you something better, or give you a FULL refund.

I don't know about now but not so long ago pc3500 and pc4000 DDR1 used to sell for mad prices. As above they probably don't have any left. See if you can get some DDR3 for your next upgrade It's worth a moan but I wouldn't waste too much time on it.

Still question it to OCZ support, giving you an alternative replacement is fine - only when they email you first, explain why - and OFFER you the lower spec RAM as your choice.

so you should get a replacement thats lesser?

people go crazy when its a graphics card manufacture doing it, i dont think any other hardware making gives you worse, only alterantives that generally are a lot better.

Get onto them m8 they are normaly pretty good and should sort this for you.

Try and clock it to 250Mhz first. PC4000 is only overclocked PC3200 anyway.

I had the same problem with Crucial.

My mates 2x 1GB DDR PC4000 memory died (which I gave to him), the company has no PC4000 left in stock.

I was offered two sticks of PC3200 or a partial refund of £20 per stick. I paid over £200 for two sticks in 2004

I asked if I could get DDR3 sticks as the replacement with no luck.

In the end I took the PC3200 and overclocked them.

I have heard that revision 1 ram sucks at overclocking, and that ocz is rmaing them or something. Call them and say you have revision 1 and see what they do. exchange for some rev.2 maybe?

no major deal - just disappointing that no heads up was given

not all bad the htpc is going to gain 2gb more now
