Hi just looking at a 120gb OCZ Solid State as I have seen them for under £100.

I have read there is a stuttering problem, but that can be removed by doing an unofficial firmware update.

My question is, has anyone tried this ?

Do you know if there is an official update coming out ?

I have a crucial 128gb in main PC and was thinking of one of these ocz for my laptop.

Thanks in advance

I can't say whether it works or not, but can offer some advice on the stuttering issues if it doesn't work.

In short, using a machine with an SSD in it that experiences stuttering issues can be a real pain in the ass.

I've been using an OCZ Core SSD since release and over time it's got progressively slower. The stuttering is mainly a pain when streaming videos or downloading, constantly writing to the disk with the video you're watching means you get patches where the machine will freeze then come back to life.

The first few generations of OCZ drives are quick, don't get me wrong... the advantages of it are great and I'd rather it over my old Raptor any day - but it is a pain, and I will be swapping to a Vertex or a M225 sooner rather than later.

Think this is based on the JMicron controller. Avoid.

They are pretty slow drives and my understanding is that the stutter has never been totally removed from them, despite firmware updates making some improvements, and I doubt there will be much progress now in the firmware as they are getting pretty old, with rumours that JMicron are working on a new controller.

Pay the extra and get an Indilinx based drive instead, like a Crucial M225 or OCZ Vertex - unless you have an old crappy laptop, then it might not be so much of an issue.
