OCZ SSD Firmware Toolbox stupidity!

Hi all.

I'm looking to upgrade the firmware on my Vertex 2E drive as it's a few revisions behind now. I've done this twice in the past and had zero problems, except the obvious pain of removing and then re-installing Intel RST software every time.

Now though, it would appear OCZ have changed the Firmware utility and you can't flash your drive if it is your primary drive. :confused:

Why have they changed it! It worked fine the way it was... so now, from what I can gather, I have to install Windows on to another drive. Or have I misunderstood?

Anyone had any joy with flashing their OCZ SSD lately?

Seems like a right faff just to flash the firmware... :mad:

I am sure there is a thread on their site documenting how it can be done from a bootable Linux 'stick'.

Do you really need to update it? I read it was a waste on time if it's on 1.24 or above (might be 1.23)

No not at all, but I just hate having anything that is on old versions, etc. Quite OCD about that kind of thing.

It's working fine but I just hate knowing there is a newer version available.
