Hi All

I have an original OCZ vertex 120GB in my Machine

Although I have never had any problems with it, and it does not support Trim etc on my OS/Hardware I was wondering when I will start to see age cause concern.

The Drive will be two years old this august.

I believe the warranty is 3 years on these products so shouldn't worry for another 8 months or so.

Thoughts/suggestions?

What firmware is it running? The newer versions have better garbage collection, which gives you decent performance even without Trim.

Its up to date the best I can.

Really I was just wondering if really I should think about replacement around end of warranty?

I guess because SSD's are still new tech, no body really knows what the life expectancy is.

I've been using a Vertex 1 60 GB for a couple of years now. I had Vista on it with no Trim, just used Wiper.exe and the controller's GC. I have had no issues with the drive, no slow downs, etc. Recently I flashed it to a Vertex Turbo and installed W7. Your Vertex 1 specs may qualify for a free upgrade flash to a Vertex Turbo. Check here: Flashing Vertex to Vertex Turbo You can expect the reads/writes to increase by 8~12%. The flash is destructive (all data will be lost) but you will have factory fresh Vertex Turbo read/write speeds.

Many thanks. Unfortunately my
Main drive and using a different OS so not that easy.

Realistically when should we replace our SSD's? I know spinning drives it's obvious but SSD's are abit more of an unknown.
